I'll be finishing it, but my canon playthrough won't be made until after all these stupid bugs are gone. Getting really sick of having to alt+tab out to do anything at the war table.

As for the game. I like it a lot, but I can see why someone else wouldn't. I really, really think adding all those zones without anything to connect them beyond 'this is happening here, have at it' was a mistake. There needed to be more incentive to both visit and finish them, as frankly I just feel quite happy leaving the majority of them alone to rot.

BTW, I haven't read all of this thread so I don't know if you've been told already, but if you find your mouse isn't selecting anything at the war table, right-click anywhere first.  You don't need to alt-tab out.

Does this work for dialog too? I find that occasionally in dialog my mouse stops working and I must alt-tab. I'll give this a try.

The game ins't bad. It's not great though. Which is what it should been - great.

The PC port is just damn embarrassing. I can't believe - wait - I drop that. it's EA. I believe it. They released it knowing the PC ports was terrible but didn't care cause console would out-sell PC. Problem is console controls suck too. They work (unlike the PC controls) but they are still terrible.

You know, a game like this - it's ALL about lore. Really. Most of your players are gonna be players of the first and second game. BW did the same thing with ME3; killed off lore for the sake of new players to the series. You see Alistair - what once ,for about 4 seconds? No Hero at all. Most of the crew from DA2 are barley mentioned in side quests. Same with DAO.

The main story didn't bother me that much. I like the ending of Act 1 - very nicely down. But the side quests were BORING - felt like i was playing Warcraft. In DAO - hell even DA2! - EVERYTHING connected directly to the plot. DA2's Act 2 was great because of that. The Hinterlands is like the Barrens - you barley know anything is going on except for the fade rifts here and there. Most of the quests are fetch related - in fact nothing epic happens in most of the zones. Especially the Hinterlands. Just terrible.

The game does get better after Act 2. I mean it's not as much a MMO at that point. Still close. But no more Hinterlands - thanks the gods. But you still have zones are that unremarkable and boring (and work - like the Oasis) to trek though.

If this game didn't have the DA name I'd stop playing They only reason why I am playing now is to see the end. I doubt I'll even play it again.

Well 17h is a little short don't you think? I'm at 60 hours now and I had to switch to casual because of some annoying side quests and all that grinding (because yes, I'm more interested in the main plot). But even so you can't finish the game in that time. Playing on PC and surprise I don't use a controler. Haven't encountered any bugs so far, beside some annoying glitches which are pretty annoying but enduring. (I guess I'm the lucky one)

I can agree that some side quests seem long and not worth the time, but they clearly had something to do with the storyline, it's not just random throwing npc's into the maps with unrelated quests. Tactical camera wasn't what I expected and the combat isn't that great either. But hell, I think Bioware did a great job with the story. It was really worth the effort to go through the side quests. The only thing I didn't expect to happen, was that I didn't really feel connected to the followers. There are of course some who I greatly enjoyed to talk to. (Like Cole, Cassandra and of course Varric) Somehow I couldn't really feel the connection between the Inquisitor and the other followers. Mostly because the Inquisitor felt so distant from everything (I loved the way they handled Hawke's dialogues in DA2). I wished Bioware would give us more main plot and followers quest instead of the constant grinding. But everything comes with a price right? People asked for a bigger world, they should expect that this comes with a cost.  But so far the game is great and I really enjoy it.

Wait so you NERDWARPED your way to the end of a game in 17 hours that has taken 90% of the player base well over 45+ hours to enjoy?

Maybe the dragon age series just is not your bag? I mean you came in here saying that the reviews got you again? LMAO..

I read your list of eight things you do not like about the game but then you throw out "There are TONS more" Please do enlighten us on just 10 more? If there are TONS and TONS then this should be easy for you.

There is not one game to come out this year that has been better than DAI. There will never be a "PERFECT GAME" There will always be some freak like you that will cry about something.. I do not put much faith into anyone that starts out with " I flew through the game in 17 hours and I hate it"

17 hours is a bit short. I mean, how could you even know how annoying the side quests can be if you finished the game in 17 hours? Did you even go to the Oasis? Did you bother to hunt down the dragons (there are a few of them and even on casual are VERY tough fights).

As I stated before, my biggest complaint is that is has a very real MMO feel to it. I mean, so much is designed to waste time. Like a MMO.

Someone brought up the companions and they are spot on - I don't feel as connected to them in this game as I did in DAO and DA2. Even Varric is a shell of what he was.

One thing I'm really disliking...   And I'm not sure if it's because I'm just playing it out of order, or what.  I always assume this is the case, because, well, I just play that way on my first trip through.

Did Alexius' quest.  Then got Blackwall.   Then decided to romance Blackwall.   The two are talking like they've known each other for years and years.  At the very least a few months.  When I just met the guy like five minutes ago.

EDIT :  I'm sorry, Alexius' quest is supposed to be Act I.

This post is completely ignorant and stupid.

OP-  Yea you beat the game in 17 hours.  No problem.  How you want to play is how you want to play, but to then come on the boards and make an ignorant thread called "Anyone else hate the game?".

Are you serious?   You rushed through the game just for the story and ended up disappointed.   I bet you didn't even read a thing, but just watched the cutscenes.

Posts like this are ****** stupid.

1) The main story-line can be completed in under 15 hours if you avoid sidequests (took me 17 with random sidequests here and there).

Were you speedrunning or something?  The main storyline is gated: reviewers were racing through the game and taking 50+ hours.  Either way, that's not the way the game's meant to be play.  It's your fault if you don't enjoy playing that way.

2) The ratio of side-quests to the main plot is ridiculous.  It felt like I was playing a single-player mmo, (where the majority of side-quests are fetch quests).

(Get out of the Hinterlands.)  You're meant to explore and pick up sidequests.  Sorry if the game isn't what you what you wanted, but you should play a JRPG if you want all main quest and no side quest.

3) I haven't started a second game...

Don't comment then.

...but I get the feeling that my decisions don't really matter...

Technically this is all a game and none it matters.  You get plenty of choice though and plenty of feedback to that choice, which is enough for me.  If you think missing half the game because of your choices is good RPG design... you're wrong.  Even blocking players who let Redcliffe burn from completing sidequests was debatably a bad move.

...and that the conclusion to the game would be largely the same regardless of my choices...

It's an end of the world plot.  What do you expect?  They also need to make room for possible sequels and wildly varying political endings are not conducive to that.

4) The main storyline is TERRIBLE.  Felt like I'd already heard this story with the Oblivion gates... Only I can save the world - blah, blah, blah - constant RPG tropes.  I expected more from Bioware.

Have you played a Bioware game before?  Their main plots have been some of the most troperiffic writing in video games.  They got away from this in DA2 and were castigated for it (and this whole game is basically completely overcompensating for DA2).  I agree they could get more imaginative, but I'd also point out Tropes Are Not Bad.  They're used for a reason and I thought Bioware on the whole executed it rather well.

5) Controls are brutal on PC - I realize this dead horse has already been beaten... but even the controller setup ain't great.  My ranged units still just sit there firing arrows into the distance while getting pummeled by melee enemies.

That's tactics, not controls.  I didn't have a problem with either, although I realise I'm in the minority here.

6) The romance plot-lines are ridiculous - poorly written fanfiction is what they remind me of.

You read some bloody good fanfiction then.  I've been watching the romances I'm not going to play on Youtube and some of them are the most intelligent and respectful treatment of sex and romance in video games.

7) Unintuitive UI and menu after menu after menu.

I agree, in that people aren't using half the features.  I don't find the UI itself perfectly serviceable though, aside from merchants.

8) A closed 'open' world where I'm constantly trying to find out how the hell to get past invisible barriers.  The world just feels like a crap-ton of beautifully created corridors that funnel me in random directions.

Yeah... no.  That's just not right.  There are paths, but they definitely aren't that common.  I haven't heard this criticism at all, so be you're definitely in the minority here.

The KillScreen review on Metacritic is the only that really hits on most of my qualms with the game, and even that review was far to generous in my opinion with its 75% score.  While I'll be in the minority here, I wouldn't give this game higher than a 5/10.

And this is where you lose all credibility.  Metacritic is a cesspool.  There are tons of 0 scores that I bet are from clone accounts.  You've pretty much taken all the criticisms from people who played Hinterlands for a bit, those who hate that it isn't Origins and exaggerated the few negative comments from professional reviews (surprised you didn't mention bugs though).

It's not *bad* but it wasn't anywhere near as good as advertised. I thought I was going to be able to do more than I can do in game.

The busywork is alright - it keeps things going, but I thought I was going to do a lot more. For once, there were parts of the story that were flat out bad. Like, a few naked women short of a B-movie. I couldn't wait for those quests to be over. Other things had potential (story and other), but never really developed into what they should have.

They also broke things that didn't need fixing, like the controls (I don't know how many times I would jump while trying to pause the game).

This will probably be my sole runthrough.

After playing about 8 hours, I understand why some people dislike DAI. Don't get me wrong, personally I think it's a great game. Still it's as much away from DAO as ME3 is from ME1. I believe most of us had hoped that Bioware would go back to the roots and try to improve DAO like they did, when they made BG2. It didn't happen. I really enjoy DAI despite playing it on PC with a gamepad, but it's not the same intensity which I felt, when I played DAO for the first time. Maybe I just expected to much...

I will admit the main story is rather short, but then it doesn't even take you to half the areas in the game. I feel like the bulk of the game is in building up your army, either mid story or doing it post epilogue. You are constructing an empire, and you do that by taking over keeps and clearing out maps and recruiting people. I only have one real, super major complain about this game. Something that I would take a full point away from if I was a reviewer; and that is how the War Table is based on time. It's artificial fluff to pad out of the game. Especially with more interesting War Table missions taking 12 or more hours. Thank goodness I have this on PC so I can just very easily skip my clock forward 12 hours with two clicks.

Hate is too strong a word, but I dislike this game, the PC controls are awful, the loading times are horrible (my laptop is above the recommended specifications), the story is disappointing, as are the majority of characters, there is way too much graphical stuttering (even when I lower the graphics settings), BioWare's efforts to copy Skyrim are obvious, etc., so this is definitely the last game I will ever buy from EA and it's subsidiary BioWare, their games just keep getting worse and worse as time goes by, they can feel free to continue pandering to Skyrim fans (and whomever else they are trying to pander to), but I am not going to buy their games anymore, because it is now obvious that the BioWare of old is gone for good, so instead of continuing to support them and their current direction, I am going to support CD Projekt and other developers who are actually still capable of making great role-playing games.

He fell flat for me, honestly. Although I do admit he was an effective villain because, well, torture.

And Sarevok is a good choice too, but it took a second game and DLC to make him interesting.

I don't hate it, I haven't finished it yet but I like the story so far. The coding is sloppy though. Frequent bugs and memory leaks. The game stutters on good hardware because of the continuous disk writings. I mostly blame Origin and EA for this.

I have been playing for a few hours on the PS3 and I can say that I am disappointed. The character you create is ugly despite what you do. Bioware could have could more to make it work on the older platforms instead they put to much emphasis on the newer platforms and the frostbit engine  so when you play it the glitches are more.

I am sure the game is good but Bioware could have done better

Problem with him for me was: Why the hell should I care for this guy and his problems with the Elves? I had hoped to have the game focus more on, you know, family-stuff. But Irenicus was just a mad scientist with no "real" connection to me, other than he wanted my powers and stuff ... he never did much for me as a villain. Much like the villain in Throne of Bhaal actually, another wannabe-go(dess) ... But then I guess its better than have no villain at all, like Mass Effect series ... oh, I forgot, it has, that dev-guy who's name I not mention! quite a complex character that one was, too ...

Are you kidding me? I bloody love the game. I took around 50 hours for my first playthrough and visited maybe half the available areas. There is no way you got through the game in 17 hours. The story might be full of tropes, but it is still good and the characters are awesome. Since I dont actually play MMOs I am quite surprised to have no problem at all with the sidequests after reading all the hate on the forums.

I got a few UI bugs too but didn't even try to Alt-Tab XD. I simply right clicked on the screen and everything worked again.

All in all I love the game for giving me the same feeling I got when playing Origins for the first time (little sleep included).

P.S.: The Romances are awesome
