I'm sorry, I hope this is the place for it. I've looked- not extensively- but I couldn't find my answer.
Right. I played the first game on xbox 360 and I am very keen on my character and his accomplishments. Got all the achievements, he looks awesome, all that jazz. But now I have a computer which would be better graphically and is more convenient for me to use. So what is kept from the previous game?
Appearance, I would like to keep but I suppose I could do without. I'm guessing you aren't able to keep any of your talents which is a slight shame, but obviously has to happen. I was very pleased with my character, which was an adept but had assault rifle mastery. I made what I still hold to be the best decisions in the game, so I would like those. Is there any way to make the decisions again on my PC without playing the game?
There are many advantages to playing on PC, it's cheaper for one but I'll buy it on my xbox if necessary.
Basically, I'm asking what I carry through from the first mass effect and for your ideas on whether to play it xbox 30 or PC. Thanks. :)

My personal preference is the PC.

What do you carry over?  In regards of levels and stats, you carry none at all.

Everything else story-wise is transfered to the other game.

Thanks.

In this case, can I choose the decisions at the beginning of mass effect 2 that I would have made in mass effect?

Not really, no.

From the Best Buy live chat with Casey Hudson:

Guest-73: Is it possible for imported Shepherds to change history when asked questions about the past, 1984 style?

CaseyH-ME2: There's some confusion about how the game sets your "canon" for the backstory. One report said that you just answer some questions to set what has happened - not true...

CaseyH-ME2: The way it works is that if you import an ME1 character, that sets all the backstory details of what has happened so far. If you start from scratch, there is a set of default events that work better for new players to the ME universe....

CaseyH-ME2: Then, when you get through the intro, you have a conversation where you are asked a few questions - if you are in an imported character, they're just testing your memory and will tell you if your answer is wrong. But if you have a new character, you are able to set some last details through the answers to your questions.

Ahh thanks for the help, guys. Now my main concern is losing my character's appearance which took so many times to perfect. Yeah, I guess I'll be buying it PC. Living in Britain, I've still got some days before it's relesed. At least I have time to preorder it.

Oh, here's a painful discovery.

Casey Hudson:" ...we did want to make sure your hard work in developing your ME1 character is rewarded. So, you'll get more points to apply to your starting character if you were a level 40, 50, or 60 character."

I want this. I earned this! Does anybody happen to know how many points this involves?

I read somewhere that being level 60 starts you off at level 5 instead of level 1, having the Rich achievement nets you 130k credits, and having the mineral survey quest from ME1 done nets you +5000 of 4 different mineral types (for research/development projects). Can't remember where, so don't quote me, or yell at me if I'm wrong. :D

Thanks again. I'll just cut my losses. I'd rather be playing the game a peasant in wonderful high graphics with more enjoyable controls than a good character constantly waiting for the loading of textures.

This is a misunderstanding.  You dont' get more points, you get a higher starting level (which equates to having more points when you start).  There is a thread around here with the details, but I'm not going to post them due to spoiler ban threats made by the staff here.

What if you beat ME one time through and then began again doing the game plus thing.  Will my decisions carry over from the first time I beat it.  I didn't beat it a second time and don't really want to take the time to beat all over again.  Just worried that it will try to take things from my second time through as the same character...and I have only just begun a second playthrough.  What does anyone know about this?

It can only take stuff from completed games, and you pick which completed game save to load, if I understand what I have read correctly.
