I can't seem to get this quest triggerd, mother giselle won't appear in the main hall.
Though I even progressed till after the temple of mythal and still nothing. I wonder if I get more oppurtunities to improve my approval with dorian, yet I think it's already pretty high.

Yeah, I'm near the end of the game as well.

I get the feeling it's something to do with you progressing too far before talking to him or something. Maybe the trigger gets lost or bugged if you progress too far. Everyone in here seems to be pretty far into the story.

I don't know what I did to make it trigger, I know it was when I came back from Crestwood to do a certain war table mission that popped up involving the village there thoguh.

Same boat here. This isn't supposed to be part of the romance from what I can tell, so having a female inquisitor shouldn't be an issue.

Edited to add that I'm on a PC, and had already completed Halamshiral and Adamant before I realized that nothing for him had triggered. He's always flirty and friendly with my inquisitor, so I assume that his approval is pretty high.

Ok so I was having the problem where I could get the quest but when I would go into the tavern nothing would happen. I got it to work. This is how it went down:

1. Picked up the quest after finishing Adamant Fortress

2. After doing a load of side quests I gave the quest a try entering the tavern with a full party, then once with just Dorian, didn't work.

3. I did the repair function in Origin, tried again with a full party, didn't work.

4. I quick traveled to the nearest campsite, changed my party so it was just Dorian and me, took control of Dorian and walked in the tavern and it worked.

Hope this helps

I've tried to talk to him after every quest, at every possible opportunity, so I highly doubt it the bug is caused by advancing the game too far without talking to him. I've noticed I can't get his approval for other major quests as well, even if the guide says I should - in the winter palace, at temple of mythal, etc.. This is definitely bugged :<

It's been discerned over in the Dorian thread that it's extremely likely to do with choosing '*big bad* must be stopped' when you first get to Skyhold and do the speech thing. Seems like if you don't choose that, this quest will never trigger. Kinda sucks

I finally got it, you must speak to Dorian immediately after judging Alexias (use him for his magic) , it worked for me.

Serving Redcliffe's mages? It's not that - I chose that option a few times and it never triggered.

I'm not sure it's that, as I never chose that option, and I still haven't got it.

Yeh it seems like you NEED to choose that to get the quest.

Sorry, miss read, but I still don't think it was that. I did manage to get one of my old saves to work, and I didn't go back far enough to change what I said when I got to sky hold. The only reason I didn't continue on with that save was because it was too long ago. I wasn't going to redo 30+ hours of game play just to see his scenes.

I also appear to be having this problem. 46 hours in, his dialog seems to be triggering and I can flirt with him, but Mother Giselle remains in the garden. I'm not sure what the 'felix's letter cutscene' is referring to so I'm not sure if that ever happened for me.

I'm having the same issue. I'm about 35 hours in and have had Skyhold for a while. As far as I've noticed, Mother Giselle hasn't ever left the gardens. Completed Dorian's Venatori quest and exhausted all his dialogue too. I've also only ever gotten approval with him, so I doubt that's a problem. Hoping there's a fix soon.

Could you tell us at what point you got it to work, or what you did to trigger it?

I didn't really do any thing specific. It was just after I did Crestwood stuff which I did before doing the Palace. I'm pretty sure I'd just judged his master, so that may have been it.

I have good news and bad news.  Good news: I was able to fix this!  ...well, "fix".  More like "get".  I reloaded to just before I first got Skyhold, and played through to the first arrival.  The quest - and at last, the blessed cutscene with Felix's letter - triggered on talking to Dorian after I first returned to Skyhold from elsewhere.  I suspect that if you leave Skyhold and return too many times without talking to Dorian, the quest never triggers - or, if you leave it until after you judge Alexius, Dorian's dialogue regarding that overrides the flag for the Felix letter scene.

Tl; dr - speak to him soon after you first get Skyhold, ideally the first time you come *back* to the place (i.e. your second visit), but before you judge Alexius, to be on the safe side.  I'll try reloading that save again to see if it still triggers after judging Alexius.

So there *is* a workaround.  It's just... unsatisfactory if, like me, you've already clocked up a long playing time.

As far as I can recall, I've talked to Dorian at every opportunity and yet I can't remember the "Felix letter" cutscene? Is there an associated codex entry? I'm rather deep in on romancing him and would prefer not to have to go back a lot of hours ;;

i recently encountered this issue too. it worked fine my first play through, and even on my second, but i had to reload to fix a bugged quest in the emerald graves, and now it wont trigger. i already judged alexius, but im not sure about the letter. i killed all the venetori so his affection should be high enough. I ran the repar option in origin, and someone said something about deleting my save utility data but im not sure how to do that? im running out of options otl but no matter what I do mother G is never in the hall

Can anybody confirm whether talking to him a lot in Haven (AKA doing ALL his dialogue trees) is a deciding factor? That's the ONLY thing I can think of that is preventing this quest from properly triggering for me.

Here's exactly what I did from Redcliffe on:

- Sided with Mages & Conscripted them.

- Talked with everyone in Haven, asked Dorian about Alexius (even though Alexius wasn't in the prison, I'm assuming this was a dialogue option intended for Skyhold that may have been triggered too early?)

- Proceeded to do some side-quests, etc.

- Progressed the main plot and got Skyhold.

- Immediately ran up and talked to Dorian and a few other PCs (but not ALL of Skyhold.)

- Fast traveled to Hinterlands and back to Skyhold and ran back to Dorian. No dialogue options.

- Tried again, still no dialogue options.

- Judged Alexius and talked to Dorian, different dialogue but no actual options.

- Fast traveled. No options.

- Tried progressing Hawke and unlocking Crestwood since a number of people mentioned that. Still nothing.

I am running out of ideas. My only possible theory is that if you get your approval TOO high with Dorian that the game flat out skips his initial personal quest (which I assume is letters, or is it the Venatori one? It's hard to tell, I have neither right now.) Do I need to have the Venatori one completed first?

Any and all details would be amazing, the sooner I have this figured out, the sooner I can move on with life.

I'm actually having this problem too. I'm pretty sure I have relatively decent approval with Dorian and I've talked to him at every chance but I've never been able to trigger this quest even though I've finished his Ventatori and war table ones.  Perhaps this is really a bug.

According to a chatlog with an EA person, this is definitely a bug: http://answers.ea.co...st/td-p/4042086

Which is really frustrating, because I pretty much won't be playing DAI until there's a fix or patch.

I got the quest to trigger pretty easily. Here's a quick breakdown of my save state and what I had done:

- I conscripted mages.

- I rescued everyone in Haven.

- I didn't nail every single approval response for Dorian in Haven.

Once I got Skyhold, I did the EXACT following.

- Said "BIG BAD MUST BE STOPPED!" for Great Approval from Dorian during the initial "speech" portion.
- Left Skyhold IMMEDIATELY and returned.

- I ran upstairs and chatted with Dorian, I got most/all of his approval from the initial Skyhold convo.

- Immediately after we had a follow-up convo about me being a Dwarf in the Carta, this was triggered by the Approval I gained between Haven and here.

- He then had nothing left for me.

- Stopped by the Blacksmith to decorate.

- Talked about Judging on the throne with Josephine but didn't actually judge anyone yet.
- Stopped by Gizelle's in the Garden and talked through all her options just in case.
- Dorian still had nothing for me, so I went to the War Room for the first time, picked Dorian's Request and waited for it to finish. I did absolutely nothing but sit at the war room map. Once it finished I got a "Dorian Approves" message.
- Ran up the stairs from the War Room and Dorian talked about Felix's letter, then Gizelle gave me the quest downstairs. You ABSOLUTELY need to see the letter scene for Gizelle to trigger. That is all tied together.

Now, here's some additional fun facts:

- You don't need to keep leaving and re-entering. You just need Skyhold to be in its "second" phase, with various people, etc. around as opposed to the "I just got here and it looks like a mess." phase from right after the speech. This ensures everything will trigger.
- You can judge Alexius at any time, I was able to get this to trigger both after judging Alexius and before. I did a number of things, I judged Alexius, talked to Dorian about it to gain Approval, went to War Room for Approval on completion, talked to Dorian for scene. I also judged Alexius, went to War Room for Approval on completion, then went to Dorian for scene.
- You CAN exhaust all dialogue options with Dorian in Haven, or at least all of his "phase 1" dialogue. If anything additional shows up in Haven that wasn't there from when you FIRST recruited him this MAY cause an issue. Maybe.
- Untested by me, but according to others your speech during Skyhold doesn't matter in regards to a specific dialogue, but picking the one I did gives you a LARGE amount of approval and thus gets you closer to getting the quest earlier.

My personal theory is that it's either tied to having TOO MUCH approval before Skyhold, having so much approval and having a discussion at Haven that you're not supposed to get until Skyhold (or that is unlocked after the Felix letter for example like asking about Alexius, not be to confused about having gone to see Alexius), OR getting enough approval at Skyhold to see the quest/scene but not going back until you get a significantly larger amount of Approval or progress the Main Quest too a different Skyhold/world state and thus somehow bypass that quest entirely.

Your safest bet, as far as I can tell, is as follows:

- Get Dorian.

- Get Skyhold ASAP.

- Get approval up with Dorian ASAP through dialogue or decisions and not progress the main quest.

- After every bit of approval, return to Skyhold and speak with Dorian. Rinse & repeat until you see the letter scene.

His quest didn't trigger for me either, so I went back to an older save and judged Alexius to serve Redcliffe's mages... After that I got the cutscene with the letter, and after that Mother Giselle was waiting in the main hall.

Previously I made Alexius to research magic, and I didn't get the cutscene and Mother Giselle.

I lost so much time because of this.

Edit: just tried talking to Dorian again immediately after the judgement, and now the personal quest triggered with the research option as well, I'm confused. So maybe you need to immediately speak to him after judging Alexius?

Edit 2: I'm not sure what is going on anymore, the quest triggers on an earlier save, but doesn't in the next save 4 hours later.

I can confirm that the letter scene is what triggers Giselle. The question now is figuring out what triggers *that* scene and why it is not being triggered for many people. It's approval based. My testing showed that much. And you can get it at Skyhold after you leave once and the place isn't all crumbly. But there's some type of cutoff point. Some flag that takes over and sets the world to a state that makes the letter scene impossible. *That's* what I want to figure out.
