According to a chatlog with an EA person, this is definitely a bug: http://answers.ea.co...st/td-p/4042086

Which is really frustrating, because I pretty much won't be playing DAI until there's a fix or patch.

Thank you for that link. I'm glad to see they're at least trying to work at it. I'm at 86 hours now, so I was thinking of starting a new game and let this one sit until they help. Ironically enough, I've had to turn down both of the women but neither of the men I was hoping to romance will trigger it. And then The Iron Bull and Dorian started up their own romance, so I had to go back to a previous save to discourage that. I don't really want to go back, or hop on one foot while crossing my fingers in the hope of not triggering the bug. I like my pretty little dragon slaying elf dude, maybe I'll follow your lead and wait for the patch before playing again.

What? No, please tell me it's an elaborate joke :( I'm 60h into the game, just done the Orlesian Ball quest and I either have to redo 35h of gameplay or wait for the bug to be fixed without the guarantee it will trigger so late. Ugh. :/

I had no issues with launching this quest, but if I recall correctly, I didn't recruit Dorian before coming to Skyhold. I got Felix letter and his quest immediatly after the Redcliffe debacle (I allied the mages btw)

If you have played the game for an extended amounts of time and you had your sights set on romancing a certain character only to find that you are not able to, yeah that would really make upset. I have 100+ hours in the game and the quest never triggered. So yeah it kinda feels like this play through is kinda crap. Im trying to stay invested in the story but am having trouble.

Hmm, guessing I might be in the same boat. While I haven't done every companion quest, I have at least gotten one from everyone except for Dorian. I figured it might have been tied to some of the War Table missions that you can do for him since I have one of those left. Barring that, I figured it might have been something related to approval, but the only one who has been going back and forth (or mostly disapproving) is Vivienne, and I still got her quest. But after hearing a passing mention of this elsewhere, I suppose its possible this has happened to me too. I have never seen Mother Giselle in the Main Hall of Skyhold ever, but I'm very close to the end game at this point. Couldn't even tell you what Dorian's approval is mostly at since I can't actually recall what he's approved/disapproved because I feel like I haven't seen his name pop up in quite a while. I know its mostly been good, but I honestly don't know (my fault for not paying attention though).

Guess I'll find out when I keep playing.

This is quite frustrating. Anyone know of a time-frame for the potential fix? There haven't been many updates pushed through origin.

same problem here! thought something was up but wasn't sure.  100 hours in and just finished the ball where I was supposed to get approval for dorian...but it seems I haven't gotten any approval or disapproval from him in awhile.  maybe that is the problem?

mother Giselle is still in the garden area.

already turned down Cassandra and romance with iron bull seems to be ok.

the first venatori quest I did for him is 50 hours ago...not sure I wanna go back and start over.  may have to settle with iron bull romance if not fixed soon but really shouldn't have to.

it triggered for me. issue is when I enter the tavern its empty and nothing happens.

I had this, just go back outside wander a bit, and when you walk back in the cut scene should trigger properly.

So, I'm 98 hours in across two games and Giselle won't move into the hall.  I am extremely frustrated.

I HAD the same problem. On my first playthrough, with a female character, I wondered why dorian had no personal quest beside the Venetori one. On my second playthrough I played a human male and tried to romance him, but 35+ hours in the game and there was still no personal quest. I searched the internet and found out that the romance was bugged...great.

But I didn't give up and created a new character and it worked. I did the following steps:

- Sided with the Mages and talked about everything with him in Haven.
- I left Skyhold immediately after Haven was destroyed (I didn't talk to anyone I just left and came back)
- Talked to him in Skyhold upon my return which triggered the "One moment you're trying to restore order in a world gone mad" speech scene.
- Then I talked to him directly after that and the Felix letter scene startet
- Then I walked down into the main hall and there she was - Mother Giselle

In the other two playthroughts I chose the mages, but I first talked to him and judged Alexis, before I left Skyhold.

Has anyone gotten the quest if they've sided with Templars?

I've only been offered the quest if I sided with the mages, but not when I side with the Templars.

From what I know, it's a pretty common bug now. Dorian's companion quest as well as Blackwall's are prone to not trigger. In my case, nothing happened besides them offering quest to kill some Venatori and to collect Grey Warden artifacts. Too bad I learned about them in 100+ hours playthrough. Same thing with Mother Giselle - she just stayed in the garden for the whole game and never left that place to offer a quest.

Not sure how spoiler-y this subforum is, but I did read somewhere on these forums that talking to [Varric's friend] to advance the main story quest might have something to do with it.  For what it's worth, I was able to get this quest when I followed that advice and left [Varric's friend] and Varric chilling on the battlements for a while until the cutscene triggered where Dorian talks about Felix.  Then I got Dorian's quest.  On the other hand, on my first playthrough when I went to talk to Varric and his friend first, I never got the Dorian quest to trigger.

So maybe Varric keeps Mother Giselle from spawning in the throne room?  Since I notice Varric won't be in his spot in the throne room until after you go talk to him and his friend.

I'm almost unreasonably upset that the patch didn't fix this. I'm pretty sure I've "gone too far" in the game for his quest to trigger at this point...

Lucky me... trying to romance Dorian and I have this bug, too. I've been avoiding spoilers like the plague so I've been off the forums (yeah, I haven't finished my first play-through yet -- been too busy with RL to devote 100+ hours in a few days like some lucky sods).  Now I wish I'd checked here sooner

I guess I can try to reload my last pre-Skyhold save and seeing if what Nayana_Jaz suggested works (thank The Maker that I obsessively save).  If it works I get the incredible "fun" of replaying 30+ hours of the game on my current schedule.  If not, I get the joy of waiting Maker knows how long for this to be patched, or start a new character and pray the same bug doesn't strike twice...

Thank you so much for this!  I pulled back a pre-Skyhold save, did what you suggested and it worked perfectly!

Despite my angry post above, I don't even care about having to replay 30+ hours now.  After seeing that quest play out, my Inquisitor and I are both more in love with Dorian than ever :D

I'm glad, that I could help  :D  I was so angry, when I realized that I had that bug. But this bug had its good sides, now I have an Inquisitor who looks like a god and we're both sooo in love with Dorian

I'm 60+ hours in, finally got Vivienne's quest after the Winter Palace and wondered why I never got one for Dorian besides the hunting Venatori one. I'm not sure what went wrong, but I never got the Felix cutscene either, despiting talking to him multiple times before taking on another main mission.

Is there no way to trigger it manually? I don't want to wait until Bioware fixes this error which, giving by my experience with their games, may be very late or not working with my current savegame.

I think you might be right. I have 2 playthrough. The first one I got his quest on problem, and I didn't talk to Varric immediately after arriving Skyhold.
The second playthrough I finished Here Lies the Abyss quest, and the cut-scene which Dorian receive letter never show up.

After I read your comment, I reload the save after I arrive Skyhold from the first time. I went to talk with Dorain and got his first cut-scene. But I still didn't have enough approval, so I did his war table quest after that. After the quest was done and I gain his approval, I went and talked to Dorian agian when Skyhold's in the second phrase (you can access tavern, garden, etc.). And the cut-scene was trigger. I still didn't talk to Varric at this point.

Propably we'll see that missions on next playtrough. :( I don't expect that now when I'm close to end those missions are going to trigger even if they fix it.

Thank you so much for this; it helped a lot.

For anyone else struggling with this, I tried loading my earliest Skyhold save and followed this. I got nothing. After the "Order in a world gone mad" cutscene, he started with his "It's just occured to me that you're a mage" speech, and after that, just a regular conversation with no cutscene. For the record, my game so far had been:

Allied with mages > didn't speak to Dorian in Haven > Corypheus must be stopped > Didn't judge Alexius yet

I decided to load up my latest Haven save, talk through everything I could with Dorian there, then play through the attack and intro to Skyhold again. This time it worked, I got the letter cutscene after the "world gone mad" cutscene, and Mother Giselle appeared in the main hall. The only difference between my attempts was that I exhausted my conversation options with Dorian in Haven instead of not talking to him at all.

I suspect, based on things that other people have said about Dorian talking about what you've done with Alexius and the like, that the letter cutscene won't trigger if Dorian can start his conversation with anything but the default. In my case, this would be the "I've just noticed you're a mage" intro.

Now to replay through the 40-odd hours I've just rolled back.

Sigh, i just got this bug after 100+ hours in the game and noticed that Dorian didnt have any new quest for me and others had.

Too much time lost, too much items gained, so no replaying Haven for me. Hope Bioware make this a priority in the next patch (whenever that come).

I'm a completionist, so having quests bug really disturbs me. Maybe i need to stop playing and just wait for patch

I have the same issue and bring Dorian alone didn't start the mission either.
