OH MY GOSH! I GOT AROUND THE GLITCH!

Okay, so I on a whim just tried something, and unfortunately, it's not going to work for a lot of people. But I kept thinking how the Last Resort of Good Men quest started without an issue in my first playthrough and how some of the people here were convinced that having "too much approval" would lock you out of the quest forever, so I thought back to what I'd done differently the first time around. In my first playthrough, all I had done was killed ONE of the three Venatori groups and Dorian's quest triggered with no problem. It had nothing to do with Hawke or Alexius (at least for me...). So, THIS TIME, I loaded up a save I had luckily created for right after I arrived at Skyhold for the first time. Then I went to the war table and completed "Dorian's Request" which opened up the Venatori quest, and then all I did was go eliminate ONE group in the Hinterlands. Once I saw "Dorian Greatly Approves", I went back to Skyhold and talked to him, and the cutscene where he has the letter from Felix triggered automatically, and BOOM, Mother Giselle was in the main hall right after. YAY!

Here are some things I've seen people claim:
-You have to ignore Dorian before Skyhold and not exhaust all his conversation (FALSE! I talked to Dorian every single time I went to Haven and flirted and used up all his convo options before getting to Skyhold)
-You have to choose "kill corypheous" option during your first speech as Inquisitor (FALSE! I'm a Dalish and I chose the Dalish specialty option)
-You have to ignore all other quests before doing Dorian's or else you'll miss it forever (FALSE! I didn't even talk to Dorian in phase 1 of Skyhold and just activated his quest. I also went around and talked to others as well, left Skyhold once, came back to phase 2 of the building process, and then talked to Dorian again. At this point, there were no more convo options, so I left, killed one group out of the three Venatori groups, went back to Skyhold, talked to Dorian and the cutscene happened.)

So, by process of elimination, there's definitely a glitch with going too high on Dorian's approval, which is bullspit. Because how the heck can someone like you TOO MUCH to start a companion quest with you?

Bioware, please fix this!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm on my second play through now. Once I realised about 50 hours in that my Dorian romance quest was glitched I got really dissapointed and sort of sped through the rest of the gamegame.

Now that I'm on my srecond character I was really hoping the quest would trigger no problem, as it sort of detracted from my first play through in a big way not getting to experience the romance side I was excited for. So when I finished "One Less Venatori" and still got no Felix letter scene my stomach dropped, I was experiencing the bug AGAIN.

Saw your post and decided to try it, it does mean I've lost 10ish hours of gameplay, bu whi cares! I've gone back to just getting skyhold. I sided with the templars this game BTW, I talked to Dorian and recruited him into the inquisition, flirted a small bit, then did his war table mission which triggered "One Less Venatori" went to the hinterlands, killed only one group, went back to skyhold to speak with him and BOOM! Felix letter scene and mother Giselle was in the main hall straight away!

Thanks for the advice!!!!!!!!

I think a lot of the trouble is that people get the letter about Felix and think that starts the quest. It does not, all it does is make Mother Giselle come to the main hall for a couple of minutes. If you don't go to the hall immediately, she leaves and you won't get the quest.

As of Patch 1.03, this is no longer an issue for me. I finally got the cutscene about Felix's letter and the conversation with Mother Giselle!

Hope it works for everyone! :D

I can confirm, it's fixed for me too! I'm so incredibly happy right now someone would have thought I just won the lottery with the look on my face.

yea it's fixed on pc!!

my problem was ignoring mother giselle when she appeared in the main hall ( it never occurred to me that she had anything to do with dorian's quest so I ignored her (also bc i hate her)) so i continued playing and she disappeared and i was locked out of romancing dorian :((( but with the patch i got felix's letter cutscene again and mother giselle appeared once more and now i can safely say i've messed around with dorian in bed. fun times tbh.

I have a problem with Last Resort of Good Men quest. I talked to Dorian about Felix, talked to Mother Giselle about Dorian's father, then talked to Dorian about his father wanting a meeting. I have already killed 2 of the Venatori in the Hinterlands also. In past games, I've had no trouble getting the meeting to occur but this time I go into the tavern in Redcliffe with Dorian and nothing happens. There's no cutscene with his father and the tavern is empty. I tried saving and reentering but it's the same.

Anyone have a suggestion or is it hopeless? If hopeless, how do I fix? Thanks!

EDIT: I finally went to the nearest camp and dropped my other two companions so I could go into the tavern with just Dorian. The cutscene fired and the quest finished. This is my fourth playthrough and it's never done this to me before.

Just for clarification, does the patch work retrospectively?    I have done a bit of the Emerald Graves since getting to Skyhold and then killed the first batch of Venatori.    I did the Templar branch this time round so any conversations with Dorian have all been at Skyhold.    Have now exhausted all conversation options.    I don't stay on-line every time I load up so did not automatically get the update.   However, I have now done so but when I went back to Dorian I was still not getting the Felix letter.    Does it take longer if you do the Templar branch?    At what point do you know you've not got it?     Mother Giselle is in the garden and I seem to recall someone saying if she is there you've had it.    Would really appreciate some guidance as I'll go back to the beginning of Skyhold and start again if that is what it takes but I'd rather not if it isn't necessary.    I really want to romance Dorian this time so I need that quest.

I'd really appreciate some advice on this - do I need to reload and go from the beginning of Skyhold?    The whole Dorian thing has me puzzled because first run through I got it no trouble, even before the bug fix, and so far as I could remember I did all the conversations I could at Haven, flirted with him even though I was a female (because she didn't know he was gay) and seemed to have a lot of approval going into Skyhold.   I know I got the conversation pretty soon after reaching there but unfortunately can't remember exactly how far in.  It was definitely before I finished the quest tracking down the Venatori - I killed the first batch without him because I hadn't realised who they were and just thought they were a random group of mages.

So now the bug fix has been issued there ought to be no problem yet I'm still not getting the Felix conversation

UPDATE: Just went back and killed more Venatori and the Felix letter triggered; turns out that my approval wasn't high enough!

Well I did not have any problems with receiving the quest but the tavern was empty for me, too

As mentioned in an earlier reply I just went out and reentered with Dorian a few times and alas the third time the cutscene really kicked in and I could finish the quest - mysterious ! O_o

There is a book, on a barrel just inside the tavern door. If you load in to an empty tavern and no cut scene, loot that book, exit and try again, or loot the book anytime before the quest, even before you get the quest for Dorian and, it will be fine. Why that book, I don't know but, I spent half an hour testing it out and, sure enough, every time, if the book is not looted, it takes 2-5 loads to get the cut scene, if the book is looted, the scene loads every time.

You don't need to go in and out 743 times. To start the cutscene just quicksave indoors and reload.
