I brought Iron Bull and I don't regret it. He gets so enthusiastic about it. ![]()
So....how did everyone's first encounter with a dragon go?

To anyone who's killed the Hinterlands dragon; at about half health, does it spawn dragonlings? Or was that just the games horrible enemy refresh mechanic?
Yes, due to the game's horrible game mechanics, you can kill the dragon as a lvl 1 character. You need a mage in your party. Just go up the mountain thingy to the left of the dragon (straight ahead when you enter the valley where it sits, near the point of interest) and stand behind the basalt columns. From there, just fire at the dragon, controlling the mage in your party. The dragon will just sit there and blow fire at the mountainside, never hitting you. Because, you know, why bother having the dragon actually fly and attack from the sky.

You have to understand... things like this don't take high priority. Knocking players off their horse because they ran past a random dog? That's priority. How dare you not fighteth thy dog?!

Not to mention the teleportation power my horse keeps having. I am a mage and have not yet discovered this secret spell; it would save me the boredom of running all the way through Haven every time I want to go to the war map. I am now camping outside the stables with Vivienne to uncover this hidden power.

I was LVL 5.... so I ran my ass off and somehow lost its aggro (ran passed it, not back). Thank you accidental purchase of Fade Step, you've proved your worth. Long story short, I got some dragon's blood from the mob towards the back of that area and then teleported back out. I of course went back, I'd say LVL 10+ is a good time to go face the dragon although you could pull it off sooner if you don't mind going through a lot of potions and spending so much time in Tactical mode.

Just killed my first two dragons. One in Crestwood and the first of the three in Emprise du Lion. I ran from the other one in Emprise du Lion because she kept restoring her armor.

Instantly died, I guess dragons are only for the level cap, I'll have to return to it later.

The first time I actually tried to fight a dragon(and hadn't just run across it) I killed it on my first try. Knight Enchanter is OP in the best way possible. I kept my barrier up the whole time.

First I looked... Then I stared in awe as the dragon started to fly in a lazy circle overhead... then I ran screaming as I realized it was coming my way... lvl 5 Mage... defo not strong enough to engage a dragon *gg* Nor was this gamer foolish enough to try^^
Note: I'm not saying that anyone trying to engage a dragon on lvl 5 is foolish or stupid, you were just braver than me^^ I'm such a chicken when it comes to dragons *lol*

I was lvl 8, saw the dragon, engaged him/her, took a fireball to the face and died. Came back at lvl 15 with 80% fire resistance on all party members, laughed at him/her and kicked his/her arse.

Finnaly met one in Crestwood hills. Lightning attack dragon.. forgot his name. Killed on the first try. Lvl 12 party with rogue (me) . Cass. Iron Bull, Viv. Down to the last part of his health when I was the only one remaining in the party alive. Then with a last breath of life I nailed the kill blow, bumped to lvl 13 and a unique rogue armor.. (normal difficulty). I like this game ![]()

I should mention that after beating Dark Souls 2's big dragon the ballsy way this seems easy
All this said I enjoyed the fight, not saying it was too easy or that it should be fixed (I play DA on normal/easy, to relax and be able to screw up and not fail. So of course it was easy, just finding that I have post dark souls syndrome, in which not other action games feel easier, which is fine by me. If I wanted hard I'd replay Dark Souls).

Party exits a small cave out on to a cliff side.
Cassandra shouts; "It has taken flight!"
The Inquisitor: "What has taken flight?"
Party looks up.
Screen turns into a giant wall of fire.
Continue? Load? Exit game?
Oh...

Found a camp
"Cool..."
What's down there?
"Why is this place on fire?"
Hear whoosh overhead
"What's that?"
Large Dragon flying low
"Can I kill that?!"
Hit it with a few fire spells *derp*
"Oh I can fight it!"
Fireball to entire party
Everyone screaming and running away
I ended up killing that Hinterland's Dragon much later after lvling up and becoming Knight Enchanter lol! ![]()

I killed the Hinterlands one at level 15 with relative ease, was very fun. I encountered one I think in the Exalted Plains that was electrifying the water or something and messed me up real bad.

Found one fighting with a giant.
Me:"Leroyyyy jenkinnns"
The dragon flew away and i got a stone on my face from the giant....(bad idea charging with a mage)
But in the end i managed to kill the giant..
No idea where the dragon went.

I have a knight enchanter. So I only wiped once after he hit me with electric attacks and took down my barrier then flew up into the air so I couldn't hit him and keep my new barrier sustained, they're smarter than they look.

That sounds pretty familiar, except in my case it was Varric remarking on the dragon taking flight ![]()

Step 1. Heard growling.
Step 2. Saw dragon flying in the sky.
Step 3. Party is attacked by dragonlings.
Step 4. Party is decimated by one fireball blast.
Step 5. Run away screaming.
