I've managed to find 10 of 12 but not the last 2.  Anyone been able to find all of them yet?  Can't figure out where else to look here.

I am also stuck at 10/12, I have gone in every corner of Hinterlands —so I think— except for one area that you can't access because a ladder is bugged. I bet there is one piece of the mosaic up there that we can't reach till it is fixed. Which leaves a last one well hidden.

Well, crap.  I have nine.    I have looked into my guide and it only shows me 8.    Others could be hidden because of the other icons.

As far as I know there are 8 mosaic pieces in Hinterlands itself (so that should be the 8 pieces that your guide mentions) and 2 in Valammar that count toward the total in the region. That makes 10/12 and leaves 2 to discover.

 

I hope that the castle of Redcliffe doesn't count because I can't remember seeing any pieces in there and I don't think you can go back.

A friend told me he found one in the wolf den. I went and searched there for 30 min without any luck. Has anyone found a piece in that spot?

I thought I remembered picking it up on the second level of the rocky formation in the middle. Basically, in the middle of the den there is a round cylindrical formation. On one side (probably east, the back side, IIRC), there is a ramp to get you up to a place with two wooden bridges. I thought it was on one of the ledges that the bridges lead to.

I'm struggling with this, too. The Prima e-guide shows 10 on the map, not including the 2 in Valammar:

 

1. Dead Ram Gorge (the "Dungeon" in the northwest, which also has a veilfire glyph). There may be is a second piece in the cave or nearby, if the icon buried under the first mosaic piece in the Prima guide is another piece. Further information on the whereabouts of this second piece would be appreciated.

#2 is bugged to all hell. See SparrowFox' post on page 6 of this thread for further details and a possible solution.

3. In the cabin east of the landmark in the middle of the farms (Tyrdda's Lover); you end up here at the completion of Hinterland's Who Who.

4. The piece that looks like it's in or east of Wolf Hollow on the Prima map. Perhaps actually a piece of Freed Are Slaves found in the astrarium cave? Except there are reports of there being no mosaic piece in the astrarium cave. In any case, bugged. ETA: Found! See page 13 of this thread for the location. N.B. it's bugged worse than #2.

5. On the roof of the western guard tower in Grand Forest Villa (the mini-fortress to the southwest)

6. In Fort Connor (not really a cave, just a half-collapsed tower of sorts just northwest of center)

7. Inside the square cabin just east of Fort Connor (you'll have to do a bit of jumping over fallen planks to get this)

8. East of the Templar Camp (IIRC, this one is either actually in the templar camp, so you can pick it up as part of the related quest, or it's in one of two places west of Upper Lake Camp: the cabin where you find Blackwall, or the two-tent mini-camp just north of the wall by that cabin) more specifically: outside the cabin, leaning against the chimney in the south wall, next to a loot chest

9. Directly northeast of the Crossroads, but you have to go up the tower at Redcliffe Road to get it (I think). This should also be almost directly south of a Bottle of Thedas.

10. In one of the towers in the mini-fort that leads to Winterwatch Cave (on the western side of the SE Hinterlands; there's a related quest in which you have to seal a fade rift to convince some religious people you're the real deal).

11-12. In Valammar: one in the Vaults and one in the big room where you find the second gear.

 

Any help with the last would be greatly appreciated (as would any corrections). It would really suck if this thing were glitched... (Unfortunately, I think it might be, as I've checked the 11 known places but have only 10 tiles registered.) It would also be very helpful if we could see which tiles were missing. The mosaic image under the menu (Collections > Mosaics) doesn't accurately reflect how many you have.

 

ETA: All 12 of the Archdemon tiles were found in the Western Approach, so I think it's restricted to the Hinterlands.

I don't remember getting a mosaic piece there but having confirmation from someone who actually pick it up instead of remembering (or not remembering) would be nice, there were quite a few things to collect in that place so it is easy to mix them up. Also you get a collection update when you pick a piece so I am pretty sure it would have rung a bell if I hadn't had an update.

 

I am convinced that there is at least one piece at the bugged ladder that I mentionned in a post above (actually I wonder if you can't access a cave from there).

Where did your friend find it? Please ask him to clarify, if he can. The guide says there's one there, but there's a YouTube video in which it isn't where I thought it was. So it might be in the back of the cave instead, or there should have been one there and that's the one missing from my count. Alternatively, perhaps there's a bug: the tile might appear only for some people and/or not count somehow.

AFAIK, most mosaics are tied to a certain area. The Hinterlands one is The Fall. I can confirm that the Archdemon mosaic is entirely within the Western Approach as well.

 

However, there is one that is scattered across areas: Freed Are Slaves. I'm pretty sure I've found a piece or two in Crestwood and another in the Forbidden Oasis, but it's nowhere near complete. I think that mosaic is in areas that don't have mosaics of their own.

Thank you for this, but unfortunately it's lacking two tiles. There are 8 shown (not including Wolf Hollow, which as we've been discussing is probably bugged or wrongly identified), and then there will be 2 in Valammar, the dungeon behind the waterfall (#40).

 

For what it's worth, the mosaic icons on this map are more accurate than their counterparts in the guide, so it should be very helpful to people who are missing known tiles.

You managed to find all 12 of the Archdemon ones in Western Approach? I have all the Landmarks, all regions discovered, but am only at 10/12 there for mosaics. I guess I'll keep looking around.

There are 2 that are only accessible after defeating the Abyssal High Dragon, so spare yourself some effort if you haven't gotten there yet. I'll update this post in a bit with locations of all 12.

 

OK, here goes, spoilered for those uninterested:

1. In the small-ish cave called Sand Rock Mine, just to the east of the southern entrance to the Forgotten Mine

2. In the Venatori stronghold (The Still Ruins dungeon) in one of the treasure rooms; IIRC, you need the masterwork lockpicking perk from Leliana to open the door.

3. In a cave directly west of your first camp, SW of the Still Ruins. There is a landmark here for the Lost Idol.

4. In the astrarium cave (that is, the one unlocked by all three astraria) underneath the crumbling wall with the Bottle of Thedas. There should also be a glyph here.

5. Directly west of that cave, down a set of stairs that gives the landmark the Hidden Stairway.

6. In a cave in the hillside NE of nos. 4-5; there is another landmark here, called The Thing in the Dark.

7. Underneath Griffon Wing Keep in the cave you can enter through a magic barrier. There is a well here through which you can infiltrate the keep and the eponymous landmark.

8. Between Echo Back Canyon Camp and the Andoral landmark. In order to get to this one, you need to have completed the darkspawn operation at the war table and cleared out Coracavus. (There is no tile for the Archdemon in there, but there is one for Freed Are Slaves.) That dungeon spits you out right in front of Echo Back Camp, and most of the quests in this new area (just north of your first camp, formerly blocked off by the Gates of Toth) take you to the southeast, so this tile is easy to miss. Instead of SE, you want to head SW from the camp until you get to a mini-settlement with several tables and tents. The tile is propped against one of those -- I believe it was on the right as you face SW.

9. In Echoback Fort, SSE of Echo Back Canyon Camp. IIRC, you have to climb the ladder on the east wall and turn south (really the only way to go once you're up there). It should be in the square lookout tower there.

10. In the Chantry cave that is literally the feature farthest south on the map. I don't know if this cave appears before you follow the Chantry signs to it (there's a side quest that makes you examine each one), but once you get there knock down the magic barrier and help yourself. (Also some very interesting codex entries that tie into one of Cassandra's personal quests.)

11-12. Defeat the Abyssal High Dragon, which requires a ton of side quests for Mssr. Frederic (manuscript gathering, hunting pattern identification, text translation at the war table, destroying traps, resetting traps, et cetera). As soon as you do, a monolith blocking the entrance to a "cave" right in the area where you fought her disappears, allowing you to enter the ruins and grab the last two. There is no cutscene or anything, so it's easy to miss the fact that a new area has been opened. I'm using scare quotes on "cave" because the entrance is really like a hallway into the ruins, not a natural cave. If you have trouble finding it, the entrance is directly north of the Chantry cave icon. Anyhow, there's some loot in there for killing the dragon (albeit somewhat minor in comparison to the loot from the dragon herself), along with the last two tiles.

Thanks for the tip, I went back to the spot where the dragon was. Didn't notice that dumb little cave had appeared.

i killed the ahd but cave is still blocked for me...i have levelled and left zone and now coming back it is blocked...no idea if it opened after i kill ahd as i must have missed it

yeah missing two from hinter and two from WA...wolf den isnt showing up for me either and no idea where #12 is....and i just reran the other 10 in WA so and found nothing so the last two are in the cave that i must not have looted right after AHD kill and once i zoned blocked itself again

Area in WA is indeed blocked again. Damnit, I recall actually running through the area when the dragon died because so many pillars collapsed. Obviously I missed that entrance completely..

I'm sorry to those who seem to have had the ruins cave reset -- that could be a bug or something. I know that in Skyrim you had to loot those death priest masks as soon as you killed them without letting the area reset, so perhaps it's something similar?

Nah, it's highly likely to be a bug. It has nothing to do with mobs respawning like in Skyrim.

Thanks to this thread, I've got 12/12 in the Western Approach and 10/12 in the Hinterlands.

 

Checked out Maxulic's bugged ladder. Verified, although I don't think it goes anywhere. I used tactical camera to look at the other ladder in that upper area and it's impeded by a rock at it's base. It's possible this area is damaged in the fight with the dragon, which makes it inaccessible... I doubt that too though.

 

Checked the Wolf's Den, found nothing. Also couldn't find any youtube video of finding one in the Wolf's Den - can anyone verify that one?

 

Perhaps the other two are found later in the game, or in another area. I've scoured the Hinterlands pretty well.
