Boss fights. 

Boss fights are ****.  3/4 of them you've won in the first 30 seconds but you'll spend the next five minutes whittling down their ludicrous health bars and dealing with 'invulnerabily' periods where you can do nothing except run around and wait for the invul timer to run down.

 

You know what's worse than that?

 

The other 1/4 of them.  Where you're lead down a long path of unavoidable mooks who exist solely to drain your resources and then have to fight someone who is ludicrously powerful - as in can take all your party on their own (but still have an infinite supply of respawning mooks to **** with you).

 

In this game, we get a combo of all the worst boss fight traits.

 

1.  Ludicrously big HP bars?  Check

2.  Invulnerability?                  Check

3.  Ludicrous power?             Check

4.  Infinite supply of mooks?   Check

5.  At the end of a big mook tar pit that drains your resources?  Check

 

I don't know man.  I'm not sure why the devs thought setting up a fight that turns on a single unlucky crit was going to be 'fun'.  Or maybe they thought it would somehow be 'epic'.  its just fustrating to deal with someone that can two-shot even your Warriors.

 

And to make it worse - there's no narrative reason for, nothing leading up to, this middle-aged woman suddenly turning into a super-assassin that can tear through experienced soldiers like paper.  Its just Boom!  VIDEOGAME LOGIC.  I mean, if she can do this crap - she could have quitely disposed of the Empress years ago and forced the whoevers to make her empress.

 

I would have loved, LOVED, to see this part of the game end through mostly poltical intrigue and posturing.  But nope - gotta have a boss fight in there.

I HATE pride demons. Their ability to summon massive amounts of guard and tank you at 5% health for 10 minutes is obnoxious. I'll give you that. But the boss fights generally feel hard fought and won. 

I also hate that dragon wing cyclone attack. I keep my ranged damage dealers away from the dragon because smart right? but that move decimates my team and there often isn't much I can do in time to prevent it.
