Does your choice in Specialization matter?

So am I right in thinking Champion is just another name for Chevalier?
Like you take the spec and you are all but a actual member of the order, like the Templar spec?
So...Loghain was a Champion specialization, and this question would make him froth at the mouth.
There is no affiliation. At all.

I chose Knight Enchanter. Most liked it. When I romance Cass I suppose if she becomes Divine a Knight Enchanter could stay with her romantically
Who commented on it exactly.

By matter I mean: does it have any appreciable effect on the plot? If I become a Reaver will some characters instantly be disgusted with me? Or is there just the occasional bit of flavor dialogue?
Yes and No.
Some paths will give you positive or negative approval with party members, and your specialization may or may not be brought up in dialog cut scenes.

After watching the reaver trainer conversation again I think she pretty much stated they are using a form of magic well we do know outside the lore it is a form of blood magic that reavers are using.
Well dragon blood is magical and considering what has been said in DAO it contains memories as well.

I have been thinking. The rogue and two of the warrior specializations (and possibly KE) make no real sense. I dare say that the only two that make any real sense out of all the specializations are Templar (fighting demons and an angry ancient magister would probably make any warrior want to join the Templar Order) and Rift mage (while necromancer is okay, it is not that logical). At least from a story perspective.

Divine? Wut? o_o
Oh ****, if that isn't a joke then **** me. Two spoilers about both Cass and Solas in one f*cking day. At least the other one was marked as a spoiler, revealed only by my idiocy. Oh well, I suppose my BSN blackout begins right now.
If that isn't a joke.... then you sir/madam NEED TO LEARN HOW TO USE THE BLOODY
Honestly, real tired of this sh*t. Maker, please tell me I'm overreacting, that this person is only jesting...

Well one of those things is true. You're definitely overreacting, but yeah it's true. There are other candidates, however.

It only gives you additional conversations with select companions. I think it's like 2 from your class (mage, warrior, rogue) and 1 from a purely different class. Probably?
But I do know I got like 3 conversations about it though.
Man, specs quest was a pain in the butt.
**Edit:
Oh, now I remember. I got 3 conversations and it doesn't even have to do with which class you are. It really just depends on your choice and your companions' "preference" to the topic that ties in with that spec.
For example:
I wouldn't worry about "approval"/"disapproval" from your reaction when having the conversation. There's plenty of opportunity to make up for it.

What exactly is different if you choose Templar? Whom do you get special dialogue from? Josephine? Cassandra? Cullen? Cole?

My Tempest has yet to have anyone say anything special to him.
that is super disappointing as it is my favourite rogue spec.
Has anyone else who has been a templar comment on what convo and reactions they received?

I too am a bit disappointed that there don't seem to be any companion reactions to choosing Tempest. I wonder if it comes up otherwise, anyway, like Champion does when you talk to Gaspard? Probably not.
Oh, well, minor complaint. Still probably what I'm going with, although I might hold off a bit longer.

Felt very awesome.
I assume templar would have dialogue with Cullen and possibly Cassandra...maybe Vivienne?
I think I read perhaps in this thread, that iron bull complimented on tempest.
For such an interesting specialisation, not much dialogue love

My favourite reaction so far was my dalish fem knight enchanter and the elven option dialogue with Solas.

Well, so far Cullen and Dorian commented on my templar spec (I doubt there are more, coz I'm near end game). Dorian said he was amused by the southern templars and asked me if I would consider myself to join the order, to which I answered probably. Cullen had quite a lot of convo on this topic. I can have a full dialog wheel to ask him details about templars and he basically did not want to become a templar.
After you became a templar, Cullen would express his disappointment. Cass would have an extra dialog with you during Cullen's personal quest. You can have an extra dialog option after completing the Abyss quest with Cullen. I'm surprised that Cass didn't comment on this and there is nothing special when you promote ser Barris.

Bull comments on Tempest. He mentions the stuff you use being similar to qunari stuff.

Good to know. I didn't get that, maybe because I'm in that low-approval dead-zone with him. But I didn't think approval affected this kind of thing? Or maybe it's a bug. Maybe I need to reload. Whatever.

Thanks for the information. I've been thinking of trying out a templar inquisitor....
It will either be that or a Reaver (which has dialogue with Bull and Cassandra i believe).

What? Solas never responded when I became a Knight Enchanter. I harass him all the time. Since my Lavellan romanced him.
I didn't get any Solas comments about KE either, even though I ran to him as soon as I unlocked it. ![]()
He did comment on Rift Mage though.
