Spoilers.
This isn't counting the neat little encounter in The Storm Coast. This was the first dragon with a health bar and the fighting and whatnot.
So I'm in The Emerald Graves, right, tearing through the rifts and ransacking bandit-filled mansions, trading out party members to see if any banter will recognize that my ickle do-gooder Inq. and Sera are now bang buddies. Didn't actually get any banter at all (straight silence for like two hours save for some minor quest talk, who's a guy got to fellate around here to get some party banter?!) but my first sign that things were about to go south was while trying to work my way around and up a cliff to find the location this chick fell (jumped?) to her death from.
These red-lyrium infused Templars attacked and one fella, with red lyrium spikes for arms just tore through my level 12 squad. Luckily, Viv had already learned Revival and he didn't have that skull icon that warns you're about to get your ass handed to you, so I perservered and prevailed. After finding the location and wrapping up the quest, I was about to head back to the War Room as all my advisors had returned and I was resigned to the possibility that nobody gave a hoot who was motor-boating who within Skyhold, when I took a wrong turn and slid down a ledge into a clearing.
I was now bathed in a familiar green light and I heard the zapping and popping of an open rift. I turned around to see several skull icons flashing at me, letting me know just how wrong of a turn I took. So I ran, constantly pressing L1/Disengage to remind my teammates to cower like tiny men and hightail it with me. We rounded a steep cliffside and my controller rumbled in my hands. Blackwall said something along the lines of, "Would you look at that!" So I turned around just in time to see the massive legs of the giant that was about to Ray Rice me into the stone wall we were up against. I dashed through his legs and spent the next two minutes trying to deplete the health bars of his knee caps before his buddy joined the party and I realized my group had already run through the last of the health potions.
Again, we ran. (I ran; my group just magically appeared behind me every few feet and tried to surge back into the fray, no doubt under the conditions of the suicide pact they'd made when I wasn't around, so determined not to banter in my presence as they were.) It took maybe twenty seconds until the rumbling of giant footsteps faded from my Playstation controller and I felt safe enough
to attempt to Fast Travel back to Skyhold. No deal; apparently something around still wanted to kill me. So I rounded the last corner.
And received a fresh blast of bright blue dragon fire. Everyone died, the end.
I love this game.
