Kind of a tearjerker, but a beautiful short film about something all dog owners eventually go through.

Kind of?! I've seen that short twice, and it pretty much ruined my day each time (because it's really well done).

I can't. I absolutely can't.
I've been pouting all day because when I start work in 2 weeks, I'll have less time to spend with my dogs and I know that time is already limited. And my oldest dog is only 6. We curled up on the couch and watched tv together. She never complains about my show choices. She's a good friend.

It is, I´ve had to go through it twice. The only solace was that both of them were really old and had suffered a fatal heart attack (heard it after rushing them to the vet). Each separately, or course, two years apart.

I think the most profound grief I ever went through was for a dog I had to make the call to euthanize after she got cancer. That might sound like an odd statement, but it was harder for me than losing relatives in that the dog was totally my responsibility and couldn't say in words, "I'm ready to go."

Same thing. Brain cancer, had to be put down. But he fought to the very end, the vet had to give him 2 injections. Said he never saw anything like it (specially since he was a poodle).
Broke my heart.
The only thing that cause me more grief was my fathers death a few years late (also cancer. **** YOU CANCER)

I feel bad liking these posts. I appreciate the sentiment behind them.
I've lost family pets, but it always while I was away, so I was removed from the process.
I know it's something that I'll have to go through with mine now. And it breaks my heart. I hope I can make sure they die with dignity that does justice to their lives.

Here's a couple pics of my dog, Smokey:
Both of those pics are pretty old, though. His right ear droops now because it swelled up and ended up messing up the cartilage in it, but it got drained a few months ago, so it isn't swollen anymore.
This pic is from the day he got his ear drained:
Other than it drooping, his ear is fine and it doesn't seem like it slowed him down at all.
He's a German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix, btw, and he's about 8 years old.

How dogs actually drink:
I live in Imperial Beach ![]()
Just a few blocks away from the beach where they hold the competition, but I've never gone down to see it ![]()
