I'd like to maintain plausible deniability, so "probably yes".

German Shepherds are my favorite breed.

wtf, the landing of that can't be nice.

I used to have a german shepard. She wouldn't even cross a drain gap a few inches wide unless I pretended to leave her. She also barked at every person who walked by- because she wanted them to play with her. Some guard dog she would be. God I miss that useless dog.

...

That just made me remember how alarmingly underfunded animal shelters are. As much as I cheer for those people and the guys depicted in thr article, it just makes me sad, terribly sad. And I can't even look forward to cuddling our own dog, Joyce, because she died from cancer this year as I was absent during my studies.

I will leave this thread now, too much emotions.

The 2015 Iditarod Sled Dog Race starts 3/7/15
http://iditarod.com/
iditarod.jpg
About 1049 miles long, the toughest race on earth.

Dog Booties protect footpads from sharp ice and rocks.

Iditarod-dog-rest.jpg
Some rest, good food and vet care on the trail.

iditarod_2013_01.jpg
Still a hard race over a lot of icy tundra and possibly some frozen ocean.

This thread is destroying my inner cynic. I must leave before I am reduced to just making stupid gushing noises.

But... I just bring myself to leave... **** :pinched: They're too fracking adorable!

Never get Huskies.

I have two.

They raid the fridge.

They raid the food.

They destroy things.

So on and so forth.

Katie as the biggest contributor to the thread, do you have a dog?

Dog who feeds lambs. Watch the documentary if you can, it'll make you cry tears of heartwarming. (not the part about this dog)

I really miss having a dog. My last dog was an old shepherd/lab mix who passed away after having a stroke.
I've never owned a husky, but I've taken care of them for others. I live in Alaska and we do get a lot of dog sledding sports exposure...  :P

For now, my life is more cat friendly.

Huskies are high energy, strong, active dogs. They need to run and run and...
Try getting them more physically active.

Aye. VERY high energy dogs. If you don't work them out, they WILL work themselves out. At the expense of your couch, carpets and whatever it is that's mocking nature by being in between their food and its rightious place, their mouth.

I think a lot of people get huskies for their looks. Someone should breed a husky look-alike with a different temperament.

I'm not a huge fan of Huskies.  They aren't horrid dogs, but I think they are overemphasized.

I prefer dogs that are not intended for frozen wastelands.

Far to many people get vanity type dogs without actually taking the time to learn about that individual kind of dogs habits and how to take care of them unfortunately

Getting a "vanity" dog is fine if its a toy breed.

Don't get a working breed for vanity.

Alaskan Malamutes are a tad more laidback than Huskies and pretty convincing lookalikes. Emphasis on the "tad more" rather than the "laidback". They still need workout, just not as much.
