Guard Pointless ? Discuss 

 

Seriously can guard be as strong as Arcane warriors barriers. Seeing an Arcane take more damage than me (Katari BTW) is depressing !!!!!

Guard doesn't deplete over time. You never get 100% of your barrier value as damage mitigation. For classes that can get guard, it's much easier to generate some on demand as well. Also muddying the waters, they can stack for classes that can generate guard and guard is a self-only defense.  I'd have to see some hard numbers before I started making balance claims, but guard and barrier are not all that similar in my mind and don't lend themselves well to comparison.

I'm saying Arcane warriors can generate barrier on hit and it mitigates damage better than Warriors guard

But they don't have blocks to completely prevent damage. Again, I'd like to see actual numbers before jumping to any conclusions, and I don't think it's wise to reduce the argument as much as you currently have.

I clearly stated I was a Katari though. My block is a counter attack and doesn't prevent damage *facepalm*. On top of that counter attack has no invincibility frames. I don't need hard numbers when I can experience the gameplay and see the difference first hand

Katari also have that charge attack that generates of guard. I found it to be a much more reliable source of guard than the counter skill.

Arcane warrior is more or less supposed to be an alternative tank.

 

Thats not quite a Kataris job.  Isnt it more like mass murder the everythings?

Then you're ignoring other aspects of the classes.  The 2h fighters generate tons of dps but aren't primary tanks, whereas the Arcane Warrior is clearly meant to be a tank.  Guard in the Katari's case is meant to support him staying in melee range to deal with AOEs and stray aggro.  It's not meant to make him a tank.

Guard tends to convert incoming damage into effective health, doesn't decay, and is often attached to massively useful AoE taunts. AW converts outgoing damage into effective health. I'm not sure how directly comparable they are, though I'll grant the Katari's guard feels really weird and like a much more minor part of his kit than the legionnaire's. AW, on the other hand, feels a lot more like the Reaver in terms of how he gets overwhelmed and what things he just stomps through.
