My game has run PROBLEM FREE for 10 hours of gameplay.  Now, I have the geth on board and EDI is about to test stuff on the normandy so I have to
take the shuttle. After the Dialogue, my screen goes black(as it normally does when transferring between scenes) and the game doesn't respond. Any suggestions on how to fix? I've already updated my
drivers, and all that good stuff.

Do you have Vsync turned on? Try with it off

Thank you for the quick reply. How do you turn the Vsync off? I've gone into the configuration and turned everything off, but I didn't see a Vsync option.

Vsync is on by default as part of the Unreal 3 game engine. I don't think you can disable it. Perhaps try another savegame? It could be a corrupt save...just guessing here.

That's what I thought at first, but the section it freezes at is just before a main storyline mission.

Edit: I'm going to try and start from a previous save file. Will post results as soon as I can.

I think I'm having a similar problem, but I think mine happens earlier.   In the tutorial phase.

I wake up, get the pistol and ammo, and get to the first room where you kill the two bots on the ground.   When I go to the door and start the hacking game, after I decode the first 2 or 3 pairs, my screen goes black and I have to physically restart my computer.

I've tried 3 times now, and it does the exact same thing all 3 times.

Anyone have any ideas?   Sounds like the same problem, just in a different place.

I've had the same problem and put all my settings to default in the nvidia control panel and that did it for me. also you can turn off the Vsync from there a well.

hpoe this helps..

Did you set everything to default in the mass effect 2 configuration or default in the nvidia control panel? I don't see anything to change in the Nvidia control panel.

I had the same problem (about 2 mins ago). i fixed it.

Are you using -nomovies? because my problem was when trying to dock on the citidal, there is what appears to be a prerendered bid of the Normandy docking that couldn't' play and caused nothing else to load.

I have a similar issue:

I've gained access to the mission to help Miranda re-settle her sister on Illium but every time I try to actually land on Illium, the loading screen comes up (as usual) and then the game crashes. All the other available worlds work perfectly and I haven't been experiencing any other issues so far.

To reproduce this crash, I do the following: Open galaxy chart -> fly to Illium -> enter orbit -> Illium information screen pops up -> choose "land" -> loading screen appears -> after about 5 seconds the game crashes and jumps back to Windows

it seems that most of us are just having random crashes at random scenes in the game, because i never crashed when I was at that part in the game dh0501, nor have I crashed at b1sh0p77's spot. And yes, Originalshb I am using -nomovies because if I don't it causes my game to freeze at the very beginning.

that unfortunate that it crashes i would suggest trying it without. it solved my problem, actually i believe -nomovies was causing my issue which is also unfortunate  because i rather liked using it.

I have the same exact issue, only I already completed the Miranda mission. I'm thoroughly confused.

I have the same issue as well, except that it occurs whenever I hail a cab on Illium.

Try this: Open up task manager by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL.

Run the game. Press the following: CTRL-ALT-ESC

In task manager, click processes. Right click ME2's process, go to priority. Set priority to high. If it displays a dialog, do it anyway. It won't mess up your machine.

Exit out of task manager, and go back to game.

See if problem is fixed or not

Same problem here. Every time I try to enter the space port on Illium ( the door next to the stairs that lead up to Liara's office) the game crashes. The weird thing is that I already entered the space port before for some side questing and didn't encounter this problem.

I reinstalled the entire game with all the DLC but the problem persists. I don't see how changing in-game settings or CPU priority and/or affinity could help. I figure that my safegame got corrupted somehow. Any one who can agree and/or knows a way how to check this?

Try installing older graphic card drivers

If you have oc'd your pc, something may just be unstable.

Okay guys, I found a way that works for me to fix it. Now bear with me because when I first heard it I thought "ok this is the stupidest thing Ive ever heard", but it actually worked. What you do is, load whatever game works before crashing, then walk your character right up until the part where you crash (for me in the tunnel under Liara's office), once you're about 2-3 feet away from the "crashing boundary" save your game.

Walk up and the game will crash, deal with it then re-load ME2. Load up the save file you just made and I can't believe I've saying this but it runs, and so far completely without incident. I'm not sure if it just loads something differently or if it's a video effect from a different angle but what matters is that it works for a temp. fix. Hope it works for you guys too.

PS. Also just in response to the post above, if anyone actually has any idea about properly OCing a processor, i'd hope it would take something alot more stress inducing than the Unreal 3 engine to cause it to crash.

*** Update, this is my first time playing through the game and after I got past the afforementioned crashing area, I completed both Liara's initial terminal hacking missions and the dossier on Samara. But seeing how most of you guys are reporting issue after installing the Shadow Broker, Im assuming it had to do with her first mission.

I say this because at the end of your first meeting with her, you can say "let's get the shadowbroker" right off the bat without actually completing the opening mission, said mission than appears in your Journal as completed (without giving credits or exp) so I am just making the assumption there may have been some kind of conflict?
