I'm on my fourth playthrough. The three times before I didn't encounter any problems but this time I had Lair of the Shadow Broker installed. Maybe this DLC has anything to do with it,  but it I don't think it's the actual trigger. The problem must be rare and intermittent because very few players are reporting crashes at this specific point in the game.

Anyway, I worked around the problem by talking to Liara each time before passing through the tunnel. That worked for me nine times out of ten. My solution is just as weird as yours I guess. But hey...it worked.

I hope the solution given by Cola-Bear and me works for the rest of you guys

I ran into a spot where I would continually freeze. I use steam, so what I did was right click the game in steam, go to Properties, Local Files, Verify Integrity of Game Cache. After a few minutes, Steam reported that it couldn't verify one of the files, so it re-downloaded it, and now everything seems to work well.

not sure if i'm the only one having this problem.. but its similar but different. i'm at the end of the shadow broker DLC where liara takes over the shadow broker.. now trying to exit out of the shadow broker ship to the normandy.. it keeps crashing every time. not sure whats triggers it.. but it preventing me from completing the bloody game.
