That's ridiculous. I'm only level 13. Just being a tempest at least 3 slots are devoted to buffs alone. In past games I'd leave abilities not often used, but that still had great utility off the bar. If it's like past games you'll top out somewhere in the mid-twenties. I'm going to get 10+ more skills I can't map without giving up my archer skills? That's pointless.
Bioware calls this "choices", "strategy", "tactics". I call it frustration.

Well, four buttons on the controller and a modifier for four more. There you go.

Yes, but in the last two you always had access to all your skills even on console. What's the point of getting 20 skills when you can only use eight? The only way to use them now is to let the AI take over and and the AI is crap that just burns through your mana/stamina without much thought towards strategy. Ugh. I've been loving this game so far and have even forgiven the lack of a proper tactics menu but this is ridiculously disappointing.

So true... why they broke origin tactic options? Tactic system in DAI just don't work. I put resurrection priority, but my mage just burn mana for stupid fireballs, when tank k.o. So frustrating...AI is crap that just burns through your mana/stamina without much thought towards strategy.

One of the great things about Origins was the size and customization of the action bar on the PC. I am a little disappointed that we are being restricted in this way.

I agree to the fullest, 8 skills in a Role playing game that prides it self in having so many abilities.
https://cdn.tentonha...g?itok=Mjl5HpNz
What is the point if you cannot map them out?
On a game like Wow, ive got 1-6 keybound, and 1-6 on my mouse + my back and forward mouse, Q,E, R, F, C, V and so on + i got all of them bound to (key+CTRL and shift)
i understand if the controller community can only have 8, but the ones on keyboard and mouse should not have to "suffer" for that reason.

It's not even a controller limitation though. In past games when you paused combat, like you do now to use potions, the center of that circle was a recticule. And when you put it over a target you could select from all your skills not just those you mapped. It's a massive step back even as far as people using controllers are concerned. It's silly to exclude this option.

Yes, it is ridiculous. Since developers knew they were working with an 8 slot limit, abilities like Blessed Blades should have been passives.

By the way, did anyone notice whether non-controlled companions are also restricted to 8 abilities?

There really are some odd design choices cropping up in this game. This one bugs me the most what's the point in giving us tons of skill trees if we can only use 8 at a time? It just makes leveling up and learning new skills pointless when it's supposed to be the fun part when you hit a high level and have tons of skills to use in a fight.

I agree completely.
It seems really foolish not to have the same system in this game. What makes it worse is that they still have that pause function but now 3 slots are potions and the rest are telling your party what to do, like we really need that.

Just tested that idea. If I wasn't controlling my main, a rogue, the AI would always cast Stealth instantly. I took stealth out and went into a fight without ever controlling her and she never used it. So that would lead me to believe the AI is restricted to your slotted skills as well.

Its funny. They tried making an open world-ish game but then created mechanics that hindered open world style exploration.
Can anyone here imagine being able to play Skyrim with an 8 ability in combat lock and severely limited healing ?

PC has keyboard.
My hand only reaches 1-4 easily, everything else is a big reach.
Why do people want to have so many buttons to push? In Origins I'd only use like 3-4 spells most often and a few others once in a while for hard fights.
