Couple of quick questions re: Alistair romance

My last character took him through two ways- once she propositioned him early on but waited until they went to Denerim with Eamon to do his personal quest. The first trip back to camp after the Landsmeet triggered the "You're the first woman I've ever spent the night with..." variant on his proposition.
On another playthrough, she also didn't sleep with him at all, doing his personal quest right after arriving in Denerim for the Landsmeet. The proposition cutscene triggered as it should the first time she went back to camp after the Landsmeet.
If you harden him and invite him to your tent before he asks you, you don't get an official "I love you" (not counting the "See? That's why I love you!") unless you say it to him first at the gates in Denerim.

Remind me not to do that. That's depressing!

Yeah, I have extensively tested the whole Adore/Love switch thing and it only happens after you see Goldanna. I have never gotten him to proposition my character before he hits Love and he has never hit Love until his quest has been done.

Nono, IF you proposition him when he's in love, he WILL tell you he loves you. This is how you trigger it. Don't romance him until he's at least 91, do his personal quest, harden him (make sure he's at least 91 friendly at that point), then go to camp. In camp, tell him he's handsome, click on him until you get through all the romance dialogs, then proposition him. You have the standard "love" ending.

My PC's already proven hard-headed about such things - she put off letting Alistair tell about his father when we got to Redcliffe, and got the most amusing surprise when Eamon wanted to put Alistair up for king (thanks Freckles for the suggestion!).
You're welcome. That was a fun way to play it for a change, I must say. Did you like the PC's avilable responses?
Is there any negativity if you put him off on telling you??

lol So basically you fall in love with him after seeing his shrew of a sister and telling him needs to stick up for himself? A pity romance, much?
Hahaha, I always go for Zevran with my noble marrying poor Ali for political reasons, but being the curious person I am about dialog, I've tried all variants of that romance. My favorite is turning on the romance just before the landsmeet, making him king with my PC by his side, then telling him about the heir thing, "not for lack of trying!" and seeing his completely embarassed reaction.
As an aside, when he discusses the heir situation, if you tell him "Not your heir" at friendly, he doesn't mind (-5 approval, but says he's ok with it) but if you say it at love, ooooh, does he get mad (-15 approval, and he is definitely ticked off). I can't help it though. My PC at least wants to try for that heir with Zevran!

I believe I got -5 approval. I got more disapproval for letting Jowan out of his cell, and made that back at least when I gave him his mother's amulet.

Ha! Alas, Zevran is not interested in my noble (imagine that!) She won't flirt with him and is too much the knightly warrior to think that being an assassin is cool. He's sitting right in the middle of the approval bar right now, even though I give him gifts. Ah well. He hasn't gotten his gloves yet, that will warm him up.

Would it work if you left him at camp n go to redcliff; I'm thinking he'll still show up but doesn't hurt to ask lol

You can avoid getting disapproval if you let Jowan out, insist that he come with you, then say "beggars can't be choosers, come with me or stay." Jowan will stay in his cell and you get no negatives with companions, at least that I've found.Sandtigress wrote...

Hehehe, my human noble always tells Fergus about her 3 lovers at the beginning, plus Dairren! She's a bit of a party girl (think, ummm, Paris Hilton I suppose, but with class). She tells Alistair about all the lampposts she's licked, and a fling with an assassin is right up her alley. Until, of course, it's not enough.
Unless Zev is staring at your noble however, even gloves won't help

I left him at camp the first time I went to Redcliffe on my first mage playthrough so I didn't find out he was king until he showed up suddenly with me when I saved Eamon. I was also locked out of propositioning him during that playthrough; even though my approval was high enough I always got the "No, I'm not ready" when I'd ask him to my tent. I thought it might have been related to the fact I didn't know he was Maric's son, but it was probably just a glitch.
I actually prefer initiating the sex and then doing his quest much later, even if there are no "I love yous". It might not be as romantic, but it makes the relationship feel like something that progresses and it made perfect sense for my practical HN warrior to avoid too much sentimentality, even though she really liked him.

When do you get this option with Fergus? I didn't see it, only the bit where you tell him you don't mind being sent to bed early because you've got someone waiting for you. LOL at "you saucy minx." I like Fergus, too bad you don't get more interaction with him. It would be great to fight a battle with him or something.ejoslin wrote...

It's at that part -- your sister in law tells you you must be discrete if it's true. I like Fergus, too. I just wish Dairren wasn't such a . . . well, modded he's not TOO bad.

Okay, a few things so I dont screw up my HNF's story.
1) You can do Alistair’s personal quest after Landsmeet, right? I don’t see a reason why you wouldn’t be able to since Denerim is fair game post-Landsmeet, but stranger things have happened.
2) He won’t proposition you for the night without having done his personal quest, yes?
3) There is no way to keep Alistair and be his queen if you choose Loghain, I imagine? I know hardened Alistair will still marry Anora, but I can’t see him marrying HNF if she picks Loghain over him, but I thought I would ask for curiousity’s sake. Of course, if I went this route, then I’d need to do personal quest before Landsmeet, but anyways.
Thanks!
Not sure if your questions were answered directly since i only skimmed through. I saw most people didn't know the answer to 1 & 2.
Well, I do, because I've done this myself.
To answer #1, YES you can do the Goldana quest after the landsmeet, infact, her lines actually CHANGE as well, just slightly, if you have him crowned king.
#2 Alistair will only ask you to his tent if he is at 100% love. The only way to get 'love' status, even at 100% approval, is by finishing a companions personal quest.
#3 there's no way to keep Alistair and Loghaine. You always lose one for the other.
EDIT- oh btw...
Actually you don't need him at love status. 'Adore' is fine, and you can start the relationship if you want to be more than friends. There are plenty of dailouge lines that start the romance with high enough approval - even one's that are availible at lower approval/at the beginning of the game have different meanings to him with more approval.Sandtigress wrote...
You know, I think I'll do Goldanna's thing just before Landsmeet, no camp visit prior to the meet. I do want the poor guy to be in love with my PC before he gets engaged to her, after all.Though this will probably be a two-save file thing, so I can see with him at Adore/Love. Ahh, its a good thing I don't play too many other games on my PS3, because with all the alternative save files I've got going on, there won't be any room for anything else!

If Alistair marries HNF, do the epilogue slides mention his ruling ability at all? And if so, how do they change based on hardening/not hardening his personality? I hate the hardening line, so if it doesn't change the slide, I think I might not do it and just have a nice little story in my head about how she helps him grow up a little more assertive and the better ruler.

The slide about him is changed, he's a better ruler hardened. The slide about the HNF changes depending on whether he (ever) loves her or has just always been friendly.
