Far away from the Hinterlands. It's worked that way for me at least.

I got more there than most other places -- one instance.

I'm level 11 and just got Skyhold. The original party had a fair bit of banter but once I started changing it up a bit it dried up even with characters like Dorian and Viv and Iron Bull. Hope it improves as I got to other areas cause I'm not likely to use Solas much because his spec is too similar to mine.

My companions seem awfully quiet to me. Wandering around the Hinterlands in silence is not very fun. I'm ten hours into the game and I think only one banter triggered, between Cass and Varric.

I'm starting to worry that this is a bug on last-gen consoles. I've watched some PS4 gameplay that was pretty early on in the game and I was hearing stuff I've not even heard yet. Anyone else getting the same thing?

That's weird, i have triggered so many party banters already.

What i haven't triggered are "interactive" party banters (the ones where you can answer/INTERACT in dialogue wheel). That only happened once so far in my game, when Varic asked about my accent very early in the game. Its been 30 hours and not another interactive banter since (although not entirely a big issue for me).

I know I posted this in the PS4 patch ETA thread, but since it's regarding this subject I'll mention it again here.

It's a scripting issue, so it won't matter which platform you're on. Some of us have it, some of us don't. Obviously all the folks discussing a wealth of banter aren't lying, so suffice it to say those of us who unluckily never seem to run into any at all are just bugged. Gotta hope it gets fixed!

I'm about seventy hours into the game and I probably got at least fifteen banter conversations. Switched companions around and going into different areas don't help much. *sighs*

Perhaps it's more widespread than I had realized. Huh. Well, I would imagine the devs will want to address the numerous PC concerns first, but I hope this gets attention. I think I'm going to pause my playthrough for a few days; the knowledge that others are being treated to a plethora of instances of one of my favorite aspects of the franchise whilst I don't hear practically any of it is... well, it puts me off. I simply don't want to miss content.

Party banter also seems glitched for me. Sometimes I'll get 3-4 banters in an hour, then nothing for the next few hours. I switch my party around regularly, travel to different areas, don't use mounts etc. but nothing really seems to work. Also weird is that Solas is in 90% of the banter I do get to trigger. I'm 70+ hours in (playing on PC), and there are plenty of characters I've never heard having banter with each other despite using them often. It's pretty annoying.

Party banter seems often enough for me, though I have to avoid taking Solas sometimes because he never shuts up about how much he hates everyone else for not living like an elf, being Qunari etc etc...

I think I have Solas Effect also. He seems to have pretty much always been with me the very few times I've heard anything from anyone.

I'm kinda sad. I went an entire four hour stretch in the Exalted Plains with Cassandra, Cole, and Dorian. Didn't hear a peep, and I didn't even leave the area, nor go anywhere that would require loading screens cause I was busy getting all the Fade Rifts. There was no music really either, which really made it silent.

:(

Edit: Also on Xbox One.

Yeah, it sucks. Music usually triggers for me, but your banter experience is what I've been dealing with for the entire game with few exceptions.

Half my characters have never had a single banter event with anyone. :/ Lots of audio scripting problems for people, it seems. Everything else is good so I'm just gonna hold off on playing and hope it gets resolved soon.

I really, really hope that it's just an audio scripting problem. I don't want to entertain the prospect of the alternative.

Like some already mentioned. Some companions just don't have much to say to each other i've noticed. Bull and Sera seem to have quite abit of banter with Bull trying to come up with tactics using Sera in one way or another.

And then i guess it's justa  roll of a dice, Cassandra and Varrik talked quite abit to eachother while exploring the Hinterlands

I'm confident it is. A bunch of folks have talked openly about how wonderfully chatty their companions are and posted snippets and vids showcasing exponentially more interactions than I would ever think possible going off of the single-digit total I've had triggered on my end.

Dorian and Vivienne, for example. Never an exchange rom either of them with anyone no matter who else I have brought and how much time I've given them. Cole, the alleged chatterbox Sera, Iron Bull, Cassandra... all of them have had 1-2 exchanges max in 50 hours.

Nah, some of us don't hear any of that anywhere no matter how hard we try.

But it's worth noting, no doubt. For future reference, and for those who might think they're glitched but aren't.

I'm on PC and I also get very little banter. I wasn't sure if that's how it was supposed to be or some kind of bug, butif other people think their companions are chatty then there is a problem because mine definitely aren't. I bring Bull and Sera a lot and I don't think I've heard much more banter between the two of them than the "throw Sera behind enemy lines" dialogue.

I've only heard a few lines and I'm quite far into the game. One banter every several hours seems accurate.

Are they aware of this bug? Is there anywhere to report it, or is it enough to post in the forums? I'd really like to see this fixed.

I didn't notice much to begin with, especially in the Hinterlands but lately I've been hearing a lot at Crestwood.

Blackwall, Varric and Dorian get really noisy when put together. I did find Solas and  Viv to be relatively quieter.

Cole also speaks a lot, although half the time he's more like talking to himself.

I found that general conversations between party members is triggered purely by time or chance. However, there are a few definite location triggers, where usually one companion says a line to the Inquisitor.

e.g. a burnt down cart, or a basement full of corpses.

I'm on PC, using mostly Cole. Solas and Blackwall. 25 hours into the game(just finished Into the Abyss), so far I only have 5~6 banters(between Cass and Varric mostly). And I though Cole and Solas was supposed to be chatty?

I haven't heard a single banter from Iron Bull and Sera's only had banters with Solas. Varric was more talkative, I had banter with Cassandra, Blackwall and Solas, but that's pretty much only when Solas is in the party as well.

I don't think it is the particular companion that triggers it anyway.
