Where is the party banter?

Aside from that, in my 40ish hours of gameplay I've had only one instance where I was offered to participate in a banter.

Banter is much less frequent than in previous games.

I've been offered a few times, but it never works.

The Storm Coast was the easiest place for me to trigger banter, but it's still quite infrequent imo--especially given how much time is spent running around exploring etc. (360 but I don't think it matters.)

I'm getting plenty of random banter between specific characters.
Solas +Sera
Solas + Cassandra
Cassandra + Cole
Cassandra +Varric
Cassandra + Sera
Cole +Vivienne
Blackwall + Sera
Blackwall + Cassandra
Edit: You need to upgrade your speech options at the war table to participate in some conversations as well

I hate to tear myself away from the story, especially at the part I'm at now, but I'm gonna stop playing until a patch is out. Dialogue to me is what combat is to some others: the core component. I'm uh, missing half my ability list.

Must be Jeff I made a thread about character combos that work anyway and i got two new combos to play with out of it with any luck somebody else finds it useful too.

Yup, I saw and replied. Good stuff though. The core mechanics sound really neat... some of us just gotta wait for a patch to see them, haha.

Here's the deal as I see it. At this point we are not sure what amounts of banter are "regular" amounts.
In other words... Is the game performing correctly regarding party banter or are we experiencing some kind of anomaly?
I'm on PC and while I do hear some party chatter, it seems at least to not be what was intended by the programmers.
Are we supposed to be able to actually interact with our party members on occasion? I have never even had one opportunity to do so.

No, you usually don't get to interact with party members while travelling. You can do that while in base.
Some combinations of party members may be more talkative than others. So far, for me, Sera and the Iron Bull seem to have talked the most with each other - at least six or seven times. I've been playing for 25-30 hours and I've had a lot of banter happen, PC.
Maybe some of it is just audio glitching? I've had audio issues with some other stuff. Try turning on subtitles for ambient dialogue, maybe it's just that the sound clips aren't playing.

Then others are reporting lots of banter. Certainly a heckuva lot more than what I've had!

I have 50 hours and never heard bull and sera once and they are regulars for me.

I've found the more I play in one session the less frequent they are. Started up my save today and got lots of banter.

Iron Bull and Blackwall seem to have a good banter, but TWICE they started a conversation _JUST_ as I was getting on a horse... so I missed it. Getting on a horse should not stop the banter
Not getting a massive amount of banter, but occasionally I get a bit here and there.
I highly recommend Iron Bull / Dorian for innuendo.

Sadly that didn't apply to me in my testing. Traveled to whole new regions... nothing, after hours of playtesting.

Seen about the same amount as in previous games. In the hinterlands when i started Varric never stopped talking. Lately it's been Iron Bull and Blackwall having a bromance on my travels. Sera added into that mix helps too because she's like Varric and almost always has something to say.

Yeah, it's definitely a fairly major sound clip scripting error that some of us are beginning to report. "About as much as previous games" versus "almost nonexistent."

I usually get some pretty good banter with Iron Bull, Sera, and Dorian. Unfortunately, its seems pretty infrequent.

It happens, but not a lot at all. I hope this is a bug, because I was really hyped about how much banter they said there was going to be.

Check out some other folks' playthrough videos, many of them are hearing a looooooot more than us, so yeah, bug.

posted this in another forum about this issue:
I've been playing on PS4 and I'm 40+ hrs in and I've only heard banter between Varric/Solas in the beginning of the game. Right after I left Hinterlands it stopped completely. I haven't heard a single conversation between anyone else
and trust me....I've tried every combination and every stupid "fix" I've seen and nothing works.
It honestly has ruined this game for me, which is terrible b/c it's otherwise easily my favorite Bioware game. But it just completely takes me out of the RPG experience and I don't know anything about my companions. I'm going to finish this playthrough b/c I'm so far in already, but only for completion's sake. Not going to start anew until this is resolved....if it's not resolved I guess I'm going to just sell the game back :-/ I'm super upset, I was looking forward to this experience ever since it was announced on next gen.

Well by regular I meant banter that comes up regularly. It seems to vary with each person you talk to you about the issue, my guess is the amount of conversation I get out of Cassandra and Sera is probably supposed to be occurring with most characters. I'm seeing a lot of posts about Bull for example and I don't generally hear a lot from him myself.
