This is mega-irritating.

So, I chose the deeper voice for my Inquisitor and halfway through the meetup with Hawke (which I took to custom modeling to resemble my Hawke from DA2), the voice switched to the default higher pitched. Permanently. There's no going back.

This upsets me. I tried to reload the game, but it happens every time I talk to Hawke. I don't want to NOT talk to Hawke...

Same issue (although I chose the English voice over American) - have started a second character to play until a patch is released, hopefully before I get to the same point again.

This is sad but it didn't immediately occur to me that one was English and one was American. You're right. That doesn't bother me so much, though, I just want a big booming man voice out of this pretty elf because reasons. XD

Anyway, yeah, it totally ruins the immersion.

You can talk to Hawke, just don't customize his/her looks. That's what causes the bug (however if you don't have saves before the first time you customized Hawke then you are out of luck).

I don't like it too, but surely better than a bad voice. Hawke goes away, the voice doesn't ;)

True enough. I will be impatiently wait for that patch and probably restart when it comes out.

So um, this must have been encountered many times...

Spoiler

This just killed my playthrough.

There's no way I'm going to resume it in those conditions.

And who knows when a patch is going to be released.

I say BW must release a save editor for just that variable, simple enough. Or a command line instruction.

Please.

I'm playing on PS4 with a female Qunari Mage using the English Accent.  When i also used a Custom build Female Hawk my voice switched to the default choice of American Accent.  Very annoying problem.  It's like loosing my whole characters soul all at once.

Found work around until there's a patch, if i used the Default Female Hawk option instead, my character's voice stayed British.  But I not liking the Default Hawk compared to my awesome punk version.

I'm probably going to just let it switch my character's voice, if this doesn't get fixed soon. I'd rather have custom Hawke, honestly, even if she's only there for a little while. It's not like the American dude's voice is bad, it's just feels like a completely different character and it's very annoying, but I'm sure I'd get used to it. Maybe I'll just keep playing despite the annoying and jarring change and then do a playthrough with the same character again, if and when it's patched, later. I'm trying to weigh whether I want to hold out a bit longer doing side quests and waiting for a possible patch, but I'm not sure I have the patience for that.
