Yes, as soon as I heard the name Imshael I knew I found a worthy challenge, he's one of the forbidden one remember? First off he is not a secret enemy like Gaxkang in DAO or Xebenkeck in DA2 were, but I was still really excited to fight him.

I fought him at level 17, the same he is and my party compromised of 2 handed Inquisitor, Solas, Sera and Cassandra just cut through him like any other boss? Bioware doesn't he supposed to be a super difficulty boss?

Yes I know I am playing at normal but Gaxkang needed atleast 5 reloads for me when I first fought him in DAO at normal difficulty. My party was decently equipped, mostly crafted Tier 2 gear, honestly I had more trouble fighting through the trash and the moment I reached him I had only 1 health potion left, I forgot to resupply and engaged him just to check and to my surprise I beat him in first try with only 1 healing potion and 1 regen potion used for each companion.

I have clocked in around 58 hours into the game and this is THE first disappointment I have encounted in DAI yet. Those giants outside with Red Templars are 3 times more hard then the boss himself.

EDIT: I was atleast expecting him to be equal difficulty to a dragon encounter, I also just killed the level 19 dragon in the region while my party was all level 16. I think its time to be done with this playthrough and hit nightmare difficulty.

Im a 2H warrior too. Specialized in Reaver. Dragon Rage spamming makes the game easy on any difficulty

As a matter of fact I haven't learned any specialization yet, so I killed him without it.

I was with Solas, Varric and Cassandra as a duel-wield rogue and the fight was super difficult, especially as we had just finished off the two giants in the area and had no potions or health at all. So it all depends on your class and how prepared you are.

I was a lvl17 mage, with varric, sera, and cassandra. I found it similar to the arishok fight in that I had to just run in circles while my one spell that did damage recharged.

I didn't have any unexpected difficulties with that fight. I wasn't aware I was supposed to?

No specialization here. I got the quest but didn't finish it.

I just killed him with a level 12 mage on Normal, and no specializations yet. Blackwall vas Vanguard/1H shield, Varric was my archer, Solas was Spirit/Winter, my Mage is Spirit/Inferno. It took a while, but with Solas and I alternating barrier and ressurecting when needed we won! I feel like it should've been impossible compared to how hard some other bosses in DAO were... I'm disappointed as well

I had a similar party makeup, 2h Inquisitor, tank, archer, mage. I have been playing on normal and also found the fight to be without much difficulty. However, I've rarely been troubled with the elite/boss fights throughout the game. I assumed it was because I was playing on normal. I do recommend upping the difficulty level if you seem to be breezing through.

Past a certain level in the game, none of the fights are difficult, just longer or shorter. This is just the reality of having more options available to you, level after level.

This is really the case in most games, with the major issue usually being how to smooth out the difficulty curve to be less punishing in the early game on higher difficulties and more challenging in the later game on all difficulties.

The only difficult fights I feel I've had in the game, on hard, were against the Avvar boss in Fallow Mire and the final fight of In Your Heart Shall Burn, both because I was at a low level at the time and had relatively few options in how to approach them.

I was expecting more from him given his appearance in The Masked Empire, let alone the fact that he was one of the Forbidden Ones. The whole exchange with him was over a little abruptly.

DA:O's Forbidden One was even more of a pushover.  It was just an arcane horror.

Honestly, I went into that fight with Blackwall, Cassandra, Solas, and a dual-wield rogue Inquisitor, all at level 16 with Imshael at level 15.  No Regeneration potions left for my Inquisitor, Blackwall had 4 of them, Solas had 1 Healing Mist grenade and Cassandra had 2.  Only 2 health potions and Solas was low on health, Blackwall was at full Guard and full health, Cassandra was at full Guard and half health, and my Inquisitor was at 3/4 health.

The first 2/3 of the fight were pretty easy.  When Imshael was in his Nightmare demon form, danced around him a bit as my Inquisitor while Blackwall and Cassandra held his attention and Solas spammed Barrier.  When he switched to his Rage demon form, I made sure to hammer him with everything I had, having Solas spam Winter's Grasp and Ice Mine on him.  Then he switched to his Pride demon form.

The first words out of my mouth were, "Oh..... s***...."  The fight was almost impossible.  Cassandra got 2-shotted right off the bat, Solas almost got downed, but somehow managed to survive with almost 0 health, went into Stealth as my Inquisitor and tried to revive Cassandra only to get downed as a result.  That was pretty much the first half of the last third of that fight.  Cassandra and my Inquisitor would get downed, Solas would somehow manage to avoid getting touched, and Blackwall would have to go and revive my Inquisitor so I could have her revive Cassandra.  Blackwall never got his health damaged, always managing to keep up at least one bar of Guard.  Eventually got around to Solas tossing a Healing Mist over himself and my Inquisitor, but then Cassandra got downed, my Inquisitor went to revive her, got dropped, Blackwall went to revive my Inquisitor, Solas got dropped, my Inquisitor got dropped again as soon as she got up, and Blackwall was the only one still standing.

Ended up having to kite Imshael a bit in order to start reviving everyone, making sure that he was focused on Blackwall because apparently Blackwall is now impossible to kill.  So, basically, Blackwall had to carry the whole last sixth of that battle.  Eventually ended up getting Imshael onto the stairs that led to where you had to place the Inquisition flag, which actually ended up helping keep my Inquisitor and Solas from being hit.  Occasionally Cassandra got dropped, but followed by 2-3 revive attempts being abandoned before she finally got back onto her feet.

End battle: No Healing Mists, no health potions, Blackwall has 3 Regeneration potions, me being very angry about Cassandra now being a horrible tank at the worst possible time, me contemplating kicking Cassandra out of my party, small feeling of success.

This was all on normal.  It was the absolute HARDEST fight out of all the fights in DA:I for me.

I kept Solas, Varric, and myself all far away from the pride form. Whenever he would charge up to shoot a purple orb at any of them, I would hide them behind the walls/tree to keep it from connecting. Blackwall had an extra defense bar up, guard I think, so his health never actually got touched. Solas and I alternated casting barrier on him, so his guard never went down. I had to revive Solas and Varric once each because I didn't move them out of the way quick enough. Other than that it was easy, but it took forever. The first time I fought him I died at the rage demon form. That's pretty standard for me though; I prefer using the first battle against a boss/special mob as a throwaway to learn how they fight. Unfortunaltely my reward was a really awesome shield... that I cant use for another 5 levels.

I expected him to be as hard as a dragon. I honestly didn't think I'd beat him in one round

That boss fight is so long >.>. I wish there was a way to interrupt the pride demons' channel to buff itself with guard. I had to fight through so many of those guards... The worst part is when my long ranged party members keep creeping forward because the boss keeps moving, although Iron Bull with Charging Bull might not have been the best choice in tank for that fight.

Did this fight on hard, level 14 inquisitor, level 13 party, Imshael and all enemies level 16. 1 warrior, archer, 2 mages - one fire one ice.

Hardest fight of the game so far. I think I had to go through his guard about 5 times because both of my mages had lightning staves so they barely did any damage.

Used all consumables, probably wouldn't have been able to do it except Blackwall had the Wedge of Destiny shield so he had permanent healing.

Took a loooong time.

The fight was a laugh. I was really worried as I had almost no potions left right before the fight... but there was supply cache right outside the courtyard where you face him. Seems like a lot of people missed that one, though.

I was playing on Hard, but I did go in with a full-mage party. Wanted to do the entirety of Suledin with a 1-class party, and while the giants were a bit of a hassle to manage, it went fairly well. I had to reload once due to a weird bug putting Vivienne below the level map, though. Which was odd, but whatever.

I don't think I even had to use any potions. But yeah, 'twas in part due to me having nothing but mages. Two of which were Knight-Enchanters, so what do you expect, right?

In my current, 2nd playthrough I am going through the game with a rogue. Will hit Suledin with a full-rogue party. Let's see how that goes.

One of the tougher fights in the game depending on when you do it.

My first play thru I went to that area right after getting sky hold and it was BRUTAL. But, loads of fun.

Had to level to take Ishmael of course.

I don't think Bioware knows how to deliver "challenging" they just know how to bloat hp, damage and defense.

Upgraded shield bash helped a lot with that.

He was pretty easy, I'll give you that (though he glitch on my first fight, and I couldn't bring his barrier's down). But Xebenkeck in DA2 is by far the easiest of the three Forbidden Ones we've faught so far, Gaxxkang was easy too compared to some other bosses in Origins. Let's just hope in DA4 the Formless One is the toughest fight in the entire series, I want to feel proud when I finally finish off the Forbidden Ones.
