I'm posting this here as i'm not sure if its a bug or me just getting royally screwed by some gameplay thing.

Anyway story is i've been noticing my level 18 has been getting instantly downed and not from like half health to dead, I mean from full health full barrier to dead. It seems to happen with many different enemies across many levels so far its occurred repeatedly while fighting dragons, severals times while fighting a lv 15 rage demon, and once with a giant all of which where my level or lower. There didn't appear to be any specific attack (no giants rock throw, no dragons breath, no rage demon stuff i guess? I don't really pay attention to what those guys do). So i was just wondering if this was a bug or not and if i can avoid it in some way

While that would be a hilariously simple way to end this unfortunately no its the proper stuff for my level.

Also my character is a knight-enchanter so surprisingly tanky also this only appears to happen when i have about full barrier.

Matched level is just the first step in "Can I do this or no?"  Different enemies = different levels of threat.  A level 18 apostate baddie does not equal a level 18 dragon baddie, so it's silly to base things solely off "wtf it's lower level than me."

Anyhow, I would highly recommend upgrading any and everything whenever possible!  Also, invest in passives that go hand in hand/boost your active abilities.  And switching up party members can sometimes do wonders.  I find myself having a really difficult time with one situation, come back with a different party and suddenly BAM. Awesome.

On a side note, take advantage of environments, step away once in awhile when it's too hot, and jump a lot.  Particularly the last thing.  It messes with enemy AI easily when you are able to take advantage of it.

Current equipment is tier 3 robes with excellent stats and a tier 3 staff ditto.

Have done so literally soloed the dragon in storm coast with the character when i was two levels lower, and was just recently instantly gibbed by some lv 15 rage demon douchbag

Hmm.. could it possibly be you have certain advantages with inventory specs?  It's strange because in your example, both of those enemies are fire based.  It may also depend on whether the instances were in plot or random exploring.  There might be a scaling mechanic when it comes to certain encounters that changes your survivability.

Hmmmm maybe I'm fighting a dragon right this second and i just noticed i took a significant chunk of health damage through my barrier are there attacks that simply bypass barriers the tutorial in game just says they counts as temp health that must be depleted first. Have i been mislead this entire time is everything i believed a lie?

Holy crap i just watched it happen, i was near the dragon while it was breathing my allies who stood there basking in it like it was a warm summers day while me who was somewhere under the dragons head just started detonating (my barriers were unaffected) They all took barrier and armour and i just took pure health damage in these massive bursts. On the plus side i still have full barriers.....

I got my level 7 one hit killed by a Revenant in the Marshes but that was a level 12 versus level 7 thing.

This just started happening to my lvl 16. Check your stats and see what your defense is. All of mine seemed to drop to negative 300%. I really hope this isn't some weird bug.

I play on casual, so I hope this doesn't happen too often in my game.

In a different thread, the OP realized he had a passive on his equipment that made him take extra damage. Make sure this isn't the case for you.
