This is true. A lot of people are complaining about DA:I and some tend to be those who have not moved on with the main quest. Please get out of the Hinterlands. :)

Ready why here.

EDIT: I truly think the message of this thread was lost on everyone.

If you like the Hinterlands, this topic does not apply to you.

There are players who hate the Hinterlands and wont leave because they think that is all there is. Because of that, they are giving the game poor reviews.

I hope this makes more sense now. If you're enjoying the Hinterlands, then you won't be giving the game a poor review.

The article is talking to people who are complaining about how the game is so slow or that the quests suck.  If you don't like it, stop doing them and do what you WANT to do.  If you are enjoying it and savoring everything, then more power to you.  Essentially, do what works for you.

I spent 20 hours in the Hinterlands and enjoyed every second of it -- I found ancient temples, underground rivers, monuments atop mountains and so much more. I dinged lvl7, raised my Influence to lvl3, and acquired 23 points of power all while neutralizing the Mage/Templar war in the region.

You'd be crazy to skip all of this content.

True - but a lot of people are complaining that the quests are boring, and simultanously they're not doing main quests (which are absolutely amazing).

alot of people are also complaining that all the sidequest are not the same quality as origins quest,

however inquisition, has so many more qyests than origins, i imagine there is even more quality crafted quests in inquisition than the entire game of origins. They just have.. filler quests.

Someone in the Hinterlands that hasn't advanced the story can you check something for me?  At the big lake, on the upper end of it where the river runs down into it, just below the Deep Trouble quest start.  Is there a log bridge there?  I just went back after getting Skyhold, and there was one but I don't remember there being a log bridge there before hand. If my memory is correct, then that is awesome that it changes.

Hinterlands is fun! It's basically Skyrim without the crappy battle system. Ok ok I know Skyrim fans the battle system is awesome.

But still, Hinterlands I just fun to run around and explore in, and the quests are good. Besides it's early game, you're not the boss, you're just another agent representing the Inquisition who happens to be able to close rifts. So it makes sense that you'd be going around spreading good will.

Here's the issue. Coming from different RPG backgrounds, the Hinterlands is their first introduction to the world, to the game. Shouldn't they have given just more than simple fetch quest? I know I made the mistake of staying in the Hinterlands to long, it essentially made me hate the game. However, at the same time Bioware should have put more interest in the Hinterlands as well. Because this is my first impression of the world and if its this sad and this boring, then I stop playing. But I didn't I moved on and went omyjizzles this is amazing

I cant argue with that logic, i truly dont think it the way it is should make you hate the game, but valid point

The Hinterlands exists for power points, crafting, and working your way up to killing that g.d. dragon over by Redcliff. (:::shakes fist::: It killed me in one hit.) I think that's why it's a shangri-la for monotonous grinding. Since enemies can be too hard to beat, you can always go back to the Hinterlands (the "hub" as I think of it) and boost your shoe size so you can kick some bigger ass.

I think to some extent Bioware's failure with the Hinterlands is not firmly letting you know "Hey, your a fledgling organization nobody takes seriously. Yes, you're the big leader, but as far as the rest of the world is concerned, you're valedictorian at summer school."

That's the context for Hinterlands. Yes, fetch quests, yes, it doesn't feel very epic. The Inquisition is working in the mailroom of the big corporation of militant Thedas organizations. In that context, the area makes perfect sense.

Why doesn't it make sense to people that the Hinterlands do actually make sense. Simple fetch quests, helping random nameless refugees, saving someone's ram, hunting meat to help the refugees and marking cashes were supplies that once belonged to enemies can belong to those who need them and most importantly closing numerous breaches. All these quests make complete sense when you're starting the Inquisition, you are a controversial organization yes, but you're still trying to build yourself from the ground up, and as a leader in people's eyes you're the one taking charge of that. You'll help people no matter how minor the issue is; you make sure good words are spoken about your organization and at the same time you're getting supplies, materials, experience (both mechanical and technically speaking), power and fame for both you and the Inquisition. Honestly it feels so much better hearing (minor story spoilers for those who haven't reached Skyhold yet)

Spoiler

Truth is, play the game however you want to play. It's huge and if you feel the Hinterlands are draining you then leave once you're good to go which isn't a hard feat at the earlier stage of the game. If you judge a whole game based on a single area, then it's no-one else's fault but yours.

My personal opinion? I wish I don't need to replay ~14 hours I've spent on it because I'm so damn indecisive, but regardless, exploring the Hinterlands is a quality experience, I loved all the secrets I've unlocked and places I've discovered. Wish I had more time and will to read about the lore and codex entries though.

Except it's not. It's addressed to everyone playing the game and doesn't even entertain the notion that in a semi-open world game there's more than one way to play 'correctly.'

I've spent 33 hours in game so far, 80% of which was in the Hinterlands. I'll explore other areas when I feel like it.

I am having fun in the hinterlands personally, I am not sure I want to leave till I can take care of a certain dragon. Aside for payback for a horrible flaming death, I want to see what loot I get from it.  I am content for now. When I leave I kinda want to be a bit over leveled. So they can be ya know the Inquisitor who is really hard to kill. Guy or gal you are going to think twice about messing with, and not the runs from a fight type because the bad guys are stronger than you. Least that is how I want my Inquisitor to be.

The Hinterlands should have been smaller considering it is meant for low level characters and the game doesn't adjust the content to match your level.

Still looking for the Red Lyrium items from that stupid video thing. But yes it's time for me at least to move on.

I've damn near explored the whole area anyway.

Bioware shouldn't have made the Hinterlands the first zone, IMO. It's the worst one in the game that I've been to so far. All other areas have much less boring side-quests. Crestwood was just great, almost no fetch quests, just an involved questline to solve the Rift problem culminating in a Judgement, they should have begun with that one if you ask me. The Fallow Mire is very atmospheric. The Exalted Plains have a ton of history and change a lot based on your actions. All of these would have been better starter zones, I think.

And the Storm Coast looks just way cooler anyway.
