Mostly I've been playing MP w/ some friends and when I'm hosting or in those matches, those are usually fine, but I tried PUG'ing a couple late nights and the connection levels are pretty next level (they seem even worse than ME3MP's lost connections/desyncs ever were!).
- When jumping into a random match I appear to have maybe a 10-20% success rate after all these problems
- The "best case" scenario is a disconnect from the server when trying to join - it still seems to take quite a long time (including a loading screen?!?) to get back to my menu.
- When stuck on the loading screen you can't do anything but hope for an eventual timeout or quit the game - this was a problem w/ ME3MP as well which is mystifying as all the MP I've played back to Quakeworld seems to let you cancel/disconnect?
- There's also the black screen that others have reported, although that's the rarest issue I have
- What's much more common is that I'll spawn into a game and not be able to move (I can get the character to physical move on the map w/ attacks but the movement controls are busted). It's infuriating and of course means I have to start over.
- I've rarely encountered this problem, but have seen it while hosting multiple times that a player will spawn without powers. We will have to wipe and restart over or the player has to quit and rejoin to start over
Hopefully there's a patch in the works for these issues? There are lots of other bugs and things that could be improved, but why bother when most of your time is going to be spent fighting connection issues or in loading screens?
RFEs:
- I'd very much like "reserved slots" assignable by the host so that if you're playing with a couple friends (but need to make the game public for a 4th man) they could get back in. This could be limited w/ a timer (say 2min to get back in), or just through the in-game kick mechanism to vote a the slot out. I think it might not even be too hard to implement (the host won't broadcast reserved slots as empty, you could also have the host check for that reserved user id when someone tries to join), but would be awesome considering how unstable/crashy things are (did I mention that I get instant crash to desktops after long MP sessions as well?)
- A way to either restrict joining by region or minimum ping would be nice. If I can't find any stable hosts, I'd rather just host myself. Maybe more information when joining a match (with the cancel button, of course) would be good? I'm thinking that there must be some way to negotiate/test a connection for dropped packets/state synchronization before loading tons of stuff (skipping the long reload screens once you can't connect).
