As I had already lead the druffalo home, that option wasn't available for me.

I managed to jump from rock to rock up the waterfall and then around to the large rock platform to the right side (downstream) of the waterfall.  My companions kept the demons busy in the water and I was up high enough to disrupt the rift.

Thats what I did level 9 although its important to note I am a huge wuss and play on casual

Never tried the Drufallo trick, but I was getting so mad at those despair demons and the angle of the rift that I decided to take the long way around upstream from the water fall and found a way to arrive to the rift at the top of the waterfall. From there I could access the rift without much interruption and my ranged guys took care of the despair demons below. This was level 7. Now the one that's driving me nuts is the rift much farther west in the cave so I think I'll come back to that one much later.

Just led old "druffy" the Druffalo into the fray after loosing this fight twice and its just like some of you said! :D
Once he gets attacked by one of the demons, just fade-step back and let him release that pent up druffalo angst. He wrecks them; you just have to get in to disrupt the rift and back out again safely. I found the best place (without trying to climb the waterfall) is just up the hill toward the valley of burnt men (where you find the druffalo). You can access the rift without jumping around onto rocks to get at it.

Thanks for the funny druffalo tip!
