Hey. I'm level 9 atm, and have almost completed everything in the Hinterlands. Been trying to close the level 12 Rifts, with some success.
I'm just wondering what your guys' combat tactics are for the maximum difficulty.
My current party is:
Dwarf Rogue Archer Inquisitor (Archery tree is AMAZING as DPS and CC)
Varric speced like my archer (aka double the awesome)
Cassandra as main tank (50/50 mix of weapon and shield and Vanguard talents)
Solas as support and CC (full barrier build with some Winter and Inferno)
Most fight are very straightforward and easy; start by stealthing me and Varric, use Overdraw on 2 separate enemies (does massive damage AND puts them to sleep for around 20 seconds). Taunt with Cass someone who is not asleep and focus fire him down. I mostly control Cass after the initial beginning move with the archers, since microing shield wall is pretty important to keep her alive.
With the archers I only use Stealth, Overdraw and Poisoned weapons. Long shot occasionally, but the AI is pisspoor at using it themselves; they'll use it at point blank like dummies. Explosive shot does FF and low damage = very bad. Leaping shot is occasionally useful for a quick getaway, and deals NO FF, but the damage is quite low to enemies.
Most rifts are VERY easy to close with 2 archers, since you can draw them out to you one by one. The only problem is that the "Hold position" command is so broken and doesn't work properly; I've seen Cass run headalong into danger even though her current action clearly says "hold position". The tactical camera is equally horrible and I NEVER use it, except to check resistances and such from newly discovered enemies.
I think this party setup is very strong in Nightmare, You could improve it by picking a human inquisitor for one extra skillpoint, which I think is argueably better for a rogue archer than 25 % magic resistance. I just like dwarves though ![]()
For tactics I have most of them OFF, except stealth, overdraw and poisoned weapons for the archers. Cass only has Shield Wall as preferred so she'll pretty much always be defensive when I'm not controlling her, and Solas is only set on using barrier. All potion usage is Off; I'll control that myself.
What are your tactics? Do note that playing with FF on is very different from having it off, so please state if you have it on or off when giving advice ![]()
