For those people that didn't get the free downloads I would not be to upset, most of the people that got the downloads will not be able to use then as the licensing agreement XBL Marketplace used will be revoked and a new Licensing Agreement for the DLC stuff will be done at 12 am today when the game goes live.

It's just Microsoft getting on the rag, what with Bioware going to EA after Mass Effect 1...

This won't happen - there are plenty of people who got the game legitimately from stores which broke the street date and downloaded their promo items, which are now indistinguishable from the ones acquired for free. The fact is that this has happened before and there were never any such negative consequences. There were also a maximum of a few thousand people who got this stuff - keep in mind the time of night it was released, and it was only up for a few hours. Insomniacs and people working the night-shift got a break, that's about it.

Well considering it was only on the North American marketplace and it was night time everywhere in North America when it was released, no, not everyone else in the world. Think before you post.

So they aren't tying DLC to EA accounts like they did in DA:O?

It has created quite the little buzz around Live, and a spike of interest in ME2. A lot of people who would have passed the game up before hand are now going to purchase it purely to make use of the free items they have received.

Accident or no, Microsoft or EA, it has been better marketing than those ****ty three minute CG trailers.

to be honest, im kinda pissed.

i pre-ordered at gamestop just to get the terminus armor, and i hate going to game stop.

now everyone has it for free.... which all of these items SHOULD BE.

i hate items that are specific to Collectors Ed. or Pre-order BS

bioware, what are you going to do to fix this? i guess its really MS fault

i use to be like, ME should stay Xbox360 Exclusive, but after this Crap, screw MS

go to sony. and some rumors say this is already happening.

I have to hope that there's some sort of penalty for downloading these items "illegally" or that those who downloaded them without proper codes will find them unusable in-game. I saw the download links last night before I went to bed and briefly thought about taking advantage myself but it just felt too "wrong" and a little voice in the back of my head kept telling me it would be a bad idea, so I held off... now I kinda wish I hadn't.

Oh well, I'm getting the GameStop promo items and those are the only ones I really care about anyway. Honestly it was just the Dr. Pepper items and the Normandy Memorial that had me interested.

DA:O DLC is only tied to your account if you downloaded it using a code. If you purchased it on the XBL marketplace, it doesn't connect to your EA profile. You can check this by going to "Profile --> Registered Game Promotions" on the sidebar of this site.

UK were still able to download it.

Not with any consistency, as a quick perusal of these forums will tell you. Even so, a few thousand people in Europe and a few thousand in North America is hardly 'everyone' considering the game will likely sell over a million copies.

XBL team is just creating more work for themselves and BioWare. Now they'll have to roll out an additional update when you pop in the game to verify and disable to the CE and preorder DLC that was downloaded for free.

No, they won't - the erroneous DLC is indistinguishable from legitimately purchased DLC, and when this sort of thing has happened in the past there have never been 'disabling fixes' released afterward. Witness the Gears of War 2 Golden Lancer - it was never 'disabled' for those who shouldn't have had it (despite one site reporting that it would be).

I don't think enough people are 'outraged' by an occurence such as this doesn't require any sort of damage control. Bioware has no reason to apologize, perhaps on Microsoft's behalf. Bioware is not to blame. I honestly don't care enough to make a big deal out of this myself. Pre-order fluff is a plague that has a lot of poor suckers running around trying to find methods to get them all. I'd be upset if I was one of the guys who have the economy and patience to be forced by EA to shop at gamestop, purchase one standard version as well as a Collector's Edition and import Dr. Pepper from America to get everything. In fact, I'm happy for the people that got this content; and I hope they can use it - anything to put a stick in the corporate cogwheel that is Electronic Arts.

Good for them. I wish I'd have heard about this much sooner so I could've gotten it too.

No it's not. They'll find out when they're required to connect to XBL before items can be used in-game.

No-one should care that some ME fans got some armors for free, that's irrelevant. There is a legit reason to be p*ssed-off though; We, the consumers, forked over our cash to EA/Bioware & the retailer for our goods only for a third party to give away the same merchandise for free. It may be wasted calories but we have as much right to be annoyed at Xbox Live for this as EA, Bioware, or retail outlets have. If it all comes to nothing and the dlc can't be used by those who dl'ed it from XBL then it's all good - but if the illicit distribution is legitimized by lack of action or outright apathy on the part of the publisher and distributor then we, the consumers, have paid a premium in advance for no gain. Exclusive pre-order gifts and limited edition content are rendered moot if anyone can have them if they happen to be online when XBL has a brainfart.

Plenty of people have redeemed their codes already because of stores breaking street dates and so forth. There are legitimate downloads of the content mixed with the illegitimate, and as I said the precedent in these situations is to just move on rather than risk depriving others of the content they paid for in some sort of blanket 'reset'.

jealous much? they cant distinguish between kids who got the game early at stores and those who downloaded the content.
