Is there a way to make companions not be complete morons?

It's not really an issue until there are relatively dangerous enemies, like a dragon setting everything on fire, and my AI buddies, I dunno, deciding to stand in it and cry. I watched Solas actually stop casting a spell and run into a fire patch, then stand there and cast barrier, then stand there and shoot while saying "I need help." Yeah man, you do.

It's level 12, my party is level 8, so I will be coming back to it again later, but the only reason I can't kill this thing NOW is because the AI is about as dumb as a box of rocks designed by Wheatly and built by Bloody Stupid Johnson. My kids actually asked "Why does that guy keep running into fires." I dunno guys, he's a ****** elf, who knows. Elves are ineffable. Cassandra has a secret irony bent or something. She's hot. Whatever.

If there is an AI Tactics settings that is more in line with DAO and less in line with something that Bioware would have gawped at as being utterly, simplisticly stupid back in 1998 I would like a nudge towards it. Potion threshold and "Attack my target"/"Attack that stuff" isn't a tactics screen. It's a computer sciences lab afternoon assignment. What am I missing? Where is it?

I know the cave you're talking about, Narosian. My poor mage died three or four times going through there. I'd be jumped by spiders or those little freaking lizards and wonder where the rest of my party was. I'd find them all trying to squeeze through a wall. I'd manually move them over to help me, but if I didn't move them far enough from that spot they'd just run back into that same corner.

The pathing in that cave needs some work.

Ok well in the Forbidden Oasis I am jumped by 5 hyenas. Also happenstance in the midst of the fight a Fennic. Fighting is raging, Fennic runs away and who is following after him but Iron Bull. I can see why a racconish fox leaps to the top of his threat list over the snarling hyenas.

Actually realizing this happens more than I expected once I figured out to look for it a lot of stray animals are being targeted during combat. I hate to think if it was a fight that mattered and my guys were running off aft the wildlife.

There isn't much you can do without disabling all their abilities and control them manually, pausing and unpausing in between every single action. Of course, even that is a huge pain in the ass because the tactical camera is very poor.

Nothing much you can do but cope for now and hope it gets patched.

Give Cassandra charging bull ... she rushes into the wild blue yonder.

Give Blackwall the chain ability and he uses it to pull targets off of Cass instead of using it to grab ranged attackers or people mobbing the mage/archer rogue.

Solas apparently loves melee because he's always in it. Same with Dorian.

Ugh. Oh well. I guess that relegates this to a one-time playthrough for me. I can't suffer through this garbage combat UI on top of a Three Stooges AI a second time around. :(

Hope that they do patch one or the other.

Thanks for the feedback all.

Cassandra with Charging Bull and FF on is hilarious, especially if you're playing a dagger rogue and usually stood behind her target. You end up flat on the ground and Cass ends up half way across the Hinterlands. I like to think she's just flirting with me.

You could try setting the melee and active abilities like shadow strike or Charging bull off (character screen uncheck them individually) and micromanage.

That's pretty much it.

On the bright side, you can just kamikaze charge with your tank and every time you die you'll respawn there because the other three are stuck out of combat. The best part though is how, if you switch to the other members manually to direct them out of the corner, everyone else will immediately run into it.

Argh! They dont even stick to the target I tell them to attack! Cassandra you stuppid moron, you are supposed to keep the dragon bussy by attacking its head, not help at the back left foot where two-hander inquisitor is bashing it and for some god damn reason my mage desides to stand aswell. If you do the dragon will hitt her as well when she go for you with its melee.

Pleas pleas pleas, patch in some more AI rules, they are dumber then a character from Ride To Hell Redemtion!...

And why cant I have, attack closest? Or prio mages/rangers?... Why did you dumb this part down but made everything else excelent?

And they stop fight all togheter if I turn tactics of...

End of rant

My *favorite* moron moment is if you happen to stand your main character near some fire on the ground.  The other characters will often shuffle and mill about until eventually one of them will decide on their own to just go and stand in the fire.  They'll happily do this until they die....  Nice.

Mine wouldn't climb the godforsaken ladder! So I got to fight 4 spiders on my own. Way to go guys!

And here is where I use the wildlife to my advantage. I got a pack of wyverns to kill the red templars and then went in to do clean-up. It was brilliant~!

Looks like I got bamboozled again. Bought the game on launch, and it's so very broken. It's amazing how far not only Bioware, but the majority of AAA titles have gotten so dumbed down and pushed out long before they were ready....at this moment, the only company I can truly acknowledge as really caring about their product is CDProjekt Red. They know how to treat their customers.....EA and Activision....like politicians, they think we own them money because they exist!

No tactical slots, K/M mapping is a disaster. UI is atrocious, and the  "lack" of AI is almost laughable. My god, what were they thinking. Last BioWare title for me.........I'm done. Got screwed with DA2 and now this......no more of my money Bio"Un"Aware, you had the makings of a great game, and lead us to believe through all the "false" advertising that you cared for PC players, and were going to do it right.....I don't think you guys have a clue as to what made your first Dragon Age a success......

I think they will probably patch the charging bull and other abilities like that.  I know before I figured out how to use fade rift with the tacticam, Solas just Tasmanian deviled himself off a suspended floor in the Redcliff castle; good job dude!

I usually only preferred/activate basic skills, and disable the big ones I need to use strategically.  You can point to your mage where to fade rift with tacticam, can you do the same with Charging Bull?
