I've definitely got conflicted feelings about the game.

The opening/prologue felt rushed like it was dragging us through the motions just to get to Haven, rather than giving us a chance to walk around and get a feel for our character, situation, and surroundings ala DA:O. The end battle also seemed like a bit of an oversight, and I felt that once I'd completed the Grey Warden and Orlesian ball quests the urgency to defeat Corypheus diminished rapidly. It was a shame that we were able to prevent the hand wound from killing us so early on in the game, I think it would've made more of an impact if we had been able to slow down it's effect so that it was slowly killing us instead, causing pain every time we closed a rift because then it would've added even more urgency for us to find a way to stop Corypheus/close the breach permanently and given an extra layer of angst/drama to the situation on a personal level for the Inquisitor, particularly if you're romancing someone.

That being said, there were a lot of really amazing moments in the game, like the attack on Haven and the scenes that followed, that plot twist after the end credits, the interactions with the companions and their associated cutscenes, and the romances etc, although I would've liked a bit more companion/romance content since it felt a bit thinly spread out at times.

I did enjoy the game a lot, but it did feel like something was missing that I still can't quite put my finger on.

Am I the only who actually likes the Hinterlands?

I do, but I can easily understand why others don't. It's pretty obviously both an area that was over-designed to impress first-time players with its size and scope, and it's not an area that is intended or even expected to be done all at once.

Hinterlands is probably best done in small chunks, not in one bum rush you can't even finish all the quests there until Act 2 anyway.

I really don't understand the complaint of "I have to grind in order to progress the story because I don't have enough power."

I feel like I have more Power than I know what to do with and I've only completed Redcliffe, Haven and the Orlais storyline. I still have Crestwood and the two main storylines after that to complete. And I did not get my power just by fetching buffalo and delivering letters to people. The majority of it is built by doing the main side quests in each region and by closing rifts in addition to completing companion quests and the main storyline. And I feel like it should be. We should be trying to close those rifts and helping the people of the various regions. We should be investing in our companions and advisors.

I do feel like there is a lack of ... significant side quests. But when I try and think back to Origins ... I really don't remember any significant side quests there either. You can do the mage cache quest in the Brecilian Forrest but it's mostly for the loot. You don't get too much of a background.

I did like the Forgotten Ones quests in both Origins and DA 2. I haven't seen any signs of a third one popping up in this game. That's the kind of continuity I was hoping for.

I'm still not done with the game either but I definitely feel like there's been more mention of Hawke than the Warden. I feel like Dagna is the only one who has suggested the Hero of Ferelden had a huge impact on her life. Leliana and Morrigan have said hardly anything about the Hero of Ferelden. Again ... I'm not done with the game and have yet to do the Warden quest so that may change, but I just found it ... strange.

But again ... not finished. And I'm not too worried. I just finished Bull's companion quest with his crew which had the potential to be pretty heart wrenching and Solas's quest with his spirit friend. Both of those companion quests were very good. But fetching stuff for Vivianne and Blackwall? I'm guessing there's more to it than just that, but those kind of starter quests admittedly make me feel a little "meh."

Tried the multiplayer yesterday to see if that will add any significant uplift to the game, sadly it is very shallow, essentially the same as in ME3, with very slight additions (except that the ME3 multi was fun). Main problem is the lack of proper roles and therefore the lack of teamplay makes it very chaotic and hard to execute it properly, everyone is running around like a chicken with his head cut off, it is almost like "playing single player with other real people around". No real/efficient threat control, so everyone gets chased by random mobs, no way of marking targets so people could concentrate on a given target that could be aggro controlled, no real healing either, everything is just barriers. It is ok to toy with for a few games but after that it is just painful

Well that's what happens when you paint this game in your head as some sort of masterpiece. Your expectations get way too high, and you only set yourself up for disappointment in the end. Like for me, I wasn't too particularly fond of how they did the whole Krem and Dorian's dad situation. For me it felt forced and felt like a PSA commercial. Just replace straight camp with Blood Magic. I could have gotten behind if done in a different way, but as it is now just accept it as it is. The downfall of most games is the fact that you hype it up too much and you have it in your head that it's gonna have everything you thought of in your mind, and when it doesn't you feel nothing but disappointment instead of enjoying it for what it is.

Well, I didnt really have too high expectations to be honest, I honestly didnt even think that this game can turn out the way it did, I didnt watch gameplay videos on youtube or read articles for the reason of I didnt actually want to know too much about it beforehand. All I expected was to have a bioware game that was like the previous ones (meaning DA and ME franchises), and frankly these were so good that the company alone sold it for me for preorder the day it became available back in May I think.

I don't get the complaints about grinding for power. I ended my first playthrough with over 100 power because I didn't have anything to spend it on. And I wasn't even doing a completionist run. I cleared some of the areas, or at least finished their main quests and that was about it. And honestly, while there are some classic fetch quests, I never felt like they made up the bulk of the side quests. I really enjoyed the story lines in some of the areas, it made me feel like I made a real impact on the world. If  you just follow the quest lines and close the rifts you come across you should have more than enough power to unlock the story missions while not having to rely on mindless grinding. I get that some people don't like searching for shards or landmarks, but here's the thing: You don't have to do that! It's completely optional. And if you think that the Hinterlands is the most boring place in Thedas, move to another zone! With all of the places you can go, there's bound to be somewhere you enjoy questing.

Disappointed because:

1) Intro way to short IMO

2) Collision system sucks, constantly getting stuck by members in a doorway, or on a stupid twig sticking out of the ground

3) Archer jump shot....seriously if I wanted to end up 6 football fields from the action I'd love it, instead its just plain stupid

4) 4 characters was enough...who really needs 3 archers, 3 mages or 3 warriors to choose from when they all do the exact same _____!

5) All the love interests are UGLY!

6) Run here for x...return to get Exp... BORING!

7) Takes to long to even get enough power to beat the Frostmere Dragon ( got smoked in 1 shot at lvl 8, 2 shots lvl 10)

8) Gear drops suck! And crafting sucks even worse as you have to wait until you find a decent recipe

9) Tactical Cam is a joke, unless your micro managing.....I just want to play, not stop every 2 seconds to tell the stupid AI's what to do, specially when they keep running in (mage) and try to act like a warrior and get DEAD

10) Way to many bugs....gotta love bouncing around the screen, falling thru the ground, or "Climb" symbols, yet there is no ladder that can be reached. How about the floating herbs and boxes?? Got to love those also..........NOT!

11) MP, don't even get me started on that stupid speed run, die over n over, spam command bs....what a waste of disk space IMO

Plenty more, but you get the idea.....Returned it for REFUND a day later....

Total POS IMO!

I agree on the final battle. There was sadly no build up.

The story isn't that great and Cory was a dull villian. But I loved my Inquisitor. The moment I had time to breathe and settle into the game I just explored the land and headcanoned a decent background for him. When you talk to companions you do have the options to mention your past to flesh him out more. I do dislike how some dialouge is locked behind Inquisition Perks and Companion combos. I also didn't like how most of your in game time will be farming shyt. I hate farming in game but love crafting. I wish BW had just simply had all the materials available for purchase at Skyhold. I had a lot of money with nothing I wanted to buy with it.  The side quests were too MMO for me.

In the meantime it seems like a lot of people actually feel the same way on metacritic (not talking about the ones giving it a 0 and complaining about the bad pc controls only - although they are right about that) more like the ones giving it 5 or 6 and complaining about the filler content and short story like I did originally :(

And my response to that as a female who likes handsome men is this: lolololololol!!!!!!!!!! I'm pretty sure that my LI was quite attractive, and I also found other potential LIs to be attractive as well. But hey, I guess if you're not into hot guys, that might be a problem for you.

I think more people are realizing this

http://www.forbes.co...eplaying-games/

there's another review that says it all, at least exactly what I was feeling:

Writing at Kill Screen, Chris Breault calls the whole experience busy work—a long series of chores that misses the magic that Origins held:

“Many chores in this game have been mislabeled as quests,” he writes. “Close four rifts. Establish seven camps. Free seven villagers. Find 22 shards. Collect 48 copies of a book someone lifted from the library. Pick up a billion grains of sand someone left on the beach.

“It’s clear that Bioware couldn’t scale its storytelling up to the world its artists made. In Origins, even a transitional area like the Brecilian Forest could hide a paranoid hermit and the talking tree that he hated. In Inquisition, you’ll scour the wilds in vain for a scene like that, finding only “kill the guy” or “collect the thing” tasks that nobody had time to work up into a story. There are no surprises, no complicating action, no conflicting agendas, no one to use your knife on. You greet people in these areas only to get a work order, and you return to deposit the result for a word of thanks. Having a conversation with them is like talking to a mailbox.”

"the Inquisitor is a bit flat as a character, and the companions aren’t as good as in Origins. There aren’t the really tough quests with the really dark choices like Castle Redcliffe’s possessed lordling. It’s not as good a game, but it’s much prettier. It makes me want an Origins remake"

it's funny they are making the same points :)

Not being able to install the disc into my harddrive irked me, because the performance - still get long loading times, glitches, and pauses within scenes - still isn't that up to par. Might as well've kept the feature optional than removing it entirely.

That said, I think plot-wise, the game starts very slow. It eventually picks up its pace and there are a wealth of sidequests to do in each area unlocked. I think the plot suffers because the game's scale is literally too great so that the urgency of the conflict in some cases - notably with the Celene arc in Orlais - doesn't really translate to gameplay. Otherwise, I think it's great and I loved all of the high marks the moment they came, as well as taking on my first High Dragon.

I feel the characters are remarkably detailed and complex, especially when you pick characters with opposing views to put into your party. I love hearing Dorian and Solas banter, or the mental chess Dorian and Iron Bull play with each other. Also, love hearing Cassandra and Varric talk. Regardless of whether a person finds them likeable, it's easy to tell a lot of thought went into developing each one of them.

The lacking tactical camera and the underwhelming tactics slots are perhaps the only things I honestly dislike about the combat in Inquisition. Character progression is also a bit weird, but bearable. I actually like not having healing spells or limited amounts of usable potions because it was very easy in Origins to cheese your way through tough battles with a ton of poultices and Wynne. They give us very good defensive spells and an easy revival command to compensate for that, and you can upgrade the number of poultices, etc. you can carry with perks. Not to mention those "heal on kill", health regen, etc., buffs.

So I definitely like it in spite of a few disappointments - PC support is really terrible - and think it's a major step up from the Nightmare that was DA2.

I'm loving the hell out of this game I'm actually starting to like it more than Origins to some extent. Although I'm not overly fond of some certain War Table missions and some glitches can be certainly immersion breaking. I was to some extent surprised that a DLC character was taking the helm as the big bad. I love most of the quests(especially those for your companions) I feel mixed but considering that the other villains from the previous entries were not that amazing either I wasn't bothered much.

Speaking of companions this is my favorite bunch out of the games I thought I would be butting heads with a lot of them especially when religion or politics came in but I got along with almost everyone...except Sera and I like how you can't just simply throw gifts at them to mend personal insults like in Origins but I do kind of miss the Friendship/Rivalry system from DA2. Definitely plying it again after I finish it.

YES! I hated the whole gifting system. It made things way too gamey. Being able to customize the appearance of my character the way I want to now really adds to it because the most I could ever do was make my character "ambiguous" in Origins - they did much better in DA 2. I like Origins but I try not to hold it on a pedastal.

While the PC controls, limited tactics, limited armor styles, limited usable abilities, unfortunate changes to the tactical view and (IMO) overly fast combat--to the point that animations and effects are wasted-- are less than ideal, I'm loving this game. I find the story immensely engaging, love the new companion approval system and dialogue, and am having a fantastic time playing. For me, the positives far outweigh the negatives. I did have to buy a new graphics card so I could move in the rain though. ;)

I'm not disappointed because I had no expectations going in except that DA:I be better than DA2, which it is by miles.

Now, I still think DA:O is the best of the series, especially when you factor in some of the DLC (I really enjoy Awakenings).  Maybe DA:I will come closer to DA:O with upcoming DLC.

I loved the game, but, was mostly disappointed with the romances. I felt there wasn't enough to it.

The open worldness is definitely a lot to take in, but, once you get into it, you'll have fun. I played Aion for 6 years, so, no worries about the grinding..

It's at the end, closer to the last quest that it got boring for me (not the story, but the side quests) because I ended up literally doing everything, but the bugged druffalo quest. I killed all the dragons and did all the other quests. I only romanced Blackwall, but, I flirted with everyone else. I enjoyed talking to the companions until it left me with one option for the majority of the game.

Disagree, but that statement in itself is subjective. I loved Dorian, Iron Bull, Solas, and Cassandra. Varric was great and Cole too. I only disliked two characters out of the nine, but that doesn't mean I think they were written poorly - just a clash in personalities or ideals. The expressions, characterization, the growth of their character and the choices they make were far above DAO, IMO.

And the Inquisitor him/herself was better that DAO's stagnant mute Warden. Again, to each their own. Bitching about the story or characters or whatnot isn't going to change the game. It is what it is. Take it or leave it. It's not your sandbox anyway.

Talk to Josephine and get to know your character. Don't blame anyone but yourself when you refuse to try to engage with all of the story, including the optional content.

So many times this. I get the feeling a lot of people don't pick investigate options at all.
