I'm running XP with all the upgrades and latest Directx.  Installed BG1 and the patch.  When I play the graphics go all screwy - the pixels are blocked not melding smoothly for a clean picture making it almost impossible to see what should be seen.  Can anyone help as I would love to play this again?

Running AMD Phenom II X4 955

Processor

3.21 Ghz, 3.25 GB RaM

ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 series graphics card

using card on onboard graphics from motherboard.

First of all, what sort of screen do you have? Do you have a widescreen? If so if you play full screen the graphics will be elongated which means that you have to play in windowed mode. The game screen could then well be tiny. There is a mod called the widescreen mod which allows your game to fill the screen without distortion. I know that this mod works with both BGT and Tutu but I don't know if it works with the vanilla game.

It sounds as if you are playing the game without mods such as Tutu or BGT both of which improve the graphics. Is that so?

Using a regular screen, Sharp, flat, pretty much square lol... and no not using any mods as I'm not familiar with them, nor do I know how to use them.  Kind of a relic here. lol  The screen looks fine until the character starts moving around, then it loses clarity.

In that case I have no idea what is causing you problems. The game was designed for that type of screen. It's a kind of relic too.

The graphics of the original were not that good but it was certainly playable.

The two mods BGT and Tutu do improve clarity which is just one of the reasons why they are so popular.

Are you playing full screen or windowed mode?

First thing to try

1) Right click config.exe.

2) Select properties.

3) Select the compatibility tab.

4) Select the windows XP service pack 2 option.

If that solves things fine. If not:

Go into the save game menu, there is a box called graphics.

Select it.

It is here that you can select full screen or windowed mode.

There are then a few options to select.

Try selecting software standard BLT. it says "Enable this option if graphic anomalies appear in the game." My game doesn't have any anomalies, but it sounds as if yours does. :(

Please let me know if this solves things. Hope that helps. :)

At least it's not the big box monitors from way back lol.... but that said... I tried

right clicking on game and changing compatibility to first 98 then 95 - no change

in game tried the BLTs and again no change

playing in full screen afraid to try windowed lol

Not sure what you're talking about with the

1) Right click config.exe.

2) Select properties.

3) Select the compatibility tab.

4) Select the windows XP service pack 2 option.

right click on what?  If I right click on the game icon I don't see what you're talking about, same with "my computer"

if you mean the file in the game folder... same thing as the game icon.

So I'm a bit lost

Go into your game folder.

p[lace mouse over Baldur.exe and right click.

Left click with the mouse over Properties.

Left click on the compatibility tab.

The menu should look like this:

Tick the box marked run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP.
