Ok, so in my first dragon age game I played a dwarf, romanced Alistair and became his queen... why can't I select that in the tapistry? it keeps trying to change my hero to a human... >.<*

You can only be Alistair's queen if you are a noble female human. It most likely in DA:O you were his mistress or you encounter a bug.

Then it is a bug in DA:O. 

The devs only intended to have only the human noble become queen with Alistair and every other race be his mistress if they want to.

What DinX64 says is correct, only female human nobles from the Cousland family can marry Alistair officially. Any female not human, and not the nobel human, can not officially marry him to become queen. At most, they can be his concubine.

Were you by any chance playing on the PC and running a mod that lets you marry Alistair?  It's very easy to forget what mods you have installed and think that something is a vanilla feature.

I have an Amell who, thanks to mods, ended as the Queen of Ferelden. And that is reflected in 'her' Keep world state. I used the randomiser first, and then set my actual choices. The conflict solver apparently does not behave the same way as with a 'normal' world state, and thus did not object to a Circle Mage Warden marrying King!Alistair. (And yes, I am well aware that, should I import that world state into DA:I, none of those non-'canon' actions and decisions are likely be acknowledged or respected... *dons asbestos garb*)

that is one  awesome bug! but I'm playing on xbox so no mods. ^-^
