Wouldn't hold much hope - onboard graphic cards are generally not for gaming (speaking from experience here).

Yes, it is a question of the weakest link, in this case, the graphics card.

Unless you have the 9600m/9400 GT hybrid laptop, your expectations will have to be lowered somewhat.

You should still be able to play the game though.

I have the same computer; what I find in ME1 is that it runs slowly for a bit, but then runs completely smoothly at medium-high settings. It's actually quite strange because it's almost like the computer is 'warming up' or something.

Do you also have the Macbook pro(2009), only with the 9400M graphics card, not the 9600GT??

I would really stress not getting ME2 until benchmarks of it running similar hardware comes out unless you are OK with low settings.

Your computer is in the lower end of the requirements spectrum.

ME at low settings > just about everything else on the market. Not everything is about graphics.

I have the 9400m MBP

Laptop manufacturers tend to ignore the established standrad set by the GPU chip manufacturers for mobile hardware, which normally is 10% or so below where the matching desktop card was designed to run.  Laptops' performance vary all over the map, and EA is not alone in restricting official support to desktops only.

Your choice was already provided.  Run at lowered screen resolutions, or get an actual game-capable card.

I am using a nvidea 8600gt mobile in my laptop (obviously) to play ME2. This pc is about 3 years old now. The game is playable (about 25-40fps) at 1024x786 resolution with all the toggleables switched off. Unfortunately, there is no option to lower texture quality or HDR settings to make the game more functionable on lower spec PCs. The game has noticably low fps all the time but its still fun and looks good anyway. There is little noticable change in graphics quality between everything off and maxed besides some reflective surfaces and the shadows which seems odd. Trust me, I played through the whole game fully maxed on my desktop which is very powerful. Some games look like crap on low settings but ME2 does not.

As per the side by side comparison in the other message thread, a 9400 has only HALF of what an 8600 had for performance.
