Yeah. But leave them just darkspawn. Killing the arch demon is a good backdrop to da story.

The mage v templar conflict was started well by DA2 in that both sides had issues. The problem is that it definitely leaned pro mage but ruined both sides by having Orsino use blood magic to become a monster and Meredith go crazy because of the red lyrium no matter what you do. They ruined them both and killed any sympathy for their points of view.

You hit the nail on the head regarding DAII's ending. I've consistently said I was impressed by Bioware's angle throughout DAII's story-- up until the climax. Every theme they were trying to expand upon throughout the game was ruined by the end of the third act. Orsino corrupting himself out of nowhere with no buildup outside of a single poorly written connection to a blood mage killer destroyed sympathy for him and the people he led, while the red lyrium sword destroyed any sympathy for Meredith as a willful, admirable but misguided leader. Act 2 of DAII may have been my favorite singular act of a videogame at the time of the game's release, though I think perhaps a few other games since DAII's release have trumped it.

Your relationship with the Arishok, and the Qunari in general, and how the political, social and cultural themes all intertwined were spectacular. It's a shame the game is rather best remembered by Orsino being stupid, Meredith being the victim of a plot device and the rather redundant architecture of Kirkwall warehouses.

While the origins of the Darkspawn are interesting and should be touched upon in a game (and it probably will if we go to Tevinter), the critters themselves are honestly as uninteresting as it gets. They're evil Orcs who live underground and kill people because, well, it's what they do. The Broodmother angle was really creepy, but apart from that they just aren't interesting.

Meanwhile, DA:I has started to reveal very interesting things about the ancient elves, Tevinter and the like, which would be a much better focus for a game. The Qunari can easily star in another. The world of Thedas has more than enough material, I think, the writers don't really need to start digging up the generic villains again. Plus, we already stopped a Blight.

It falls under the "been there done that " category, for me.
