I have to defend BioWare on this one, I know I ranted after a ragequit some days ago but I think the Keep homepage was one of the best things they've ever implemented (for free) and they called it Beta as an excuse because they know of the minor bugs out there. Actually, it works pretty darn well although the ingame support should be much better to give you immediate insight what world state you currently have.

I bet that this is part of the console port program and they had not the time or the staff ready to change the menus in a way to appropriately (=userfriendlier) connect with the Keep. Now to be absolutely sure you have to backcheck on the homepage, which I did not dig into right off the bat I have to admit, because I was eager to start playing.

Continuing Savegame Legacy is one of their features and the Keep is a detour excuse but it is nevertheless done in a neat fashion I think.

Problems that gripe me are that it is a bit too convoluted and some choices have weird restrictions.

Fan made savegame editors were without frills but worked great back in the days and this should make the devs think :)

Yeah but in a strange and unacceptable occurrence, a number of people have reported having worldstates with internal contradictions, such as one NPC referring to the Warden as male, then another as female.

I noticed certain aspects of my world state were changed upon being exported. Lucky for me, most of the changes were minor like Hawke's personality being changed from humorous to diplomatic, along with several quests and decisions that didn't really effect the main storyline.

I can't be sure if those changed aspects would have really made an impact on my DA:I play-throughs, but at the very least I'm able to copy a play-through state and then change it in the "Editable States" section of the Keep to fix whatever problems I find for future releases.

I had something weird happen. Since my hero in my 2nd world state was a modded Dalish mage, the world state did not save correctly and when I started a new game, my character started out in the middle of the Frostback mountains and NOT the scene where Cass and Leli are interrogating her. Unplayable game.

So.. a big bug!!!

Less of a bug, more of a "why did you think using a Warden the Keep doesn't even have a tile for was a good idea?".

Heck, how did you even enter that in the tapestry?

It showed up as Dalish mage in the text.... BUT the world state image was missing for Origins. I made her a warrior instead and it all worked fine. I confused it so much, as I had no other Dalish heros except for mages. O_o

To clear the veil: I did not defend the bugs, I just say that the Keep, an universal save game editor easily accessible via homepage, was a nice move by BioWare. Of course it should have worked better at launch, because players dont wait till they eventually flesh out all the bugs and shortcomings.

My point is that "it's beta" is not an excuse because it is an important part of a product that is not in Beta.

@Bountron --  the 32 hour thing was mostly me being lost in Hinterlands (like, I was barely level 12) So I was pretty damn early in the game so I was fine with starting over. I'm just glad that I have things finally fixed >_<

...aaaand that the game is somewhat laggy for me (it's seriously eating up all of my ram on my machine so it took me extra long to get things done.)

I had some issues on my second playthrough, with my rogue Hawke importing as a warrior. (Apparently a common issue, as I've heard of this happening to multiple people) Luckily I caught it early by checking the playthrough states and thinking "wait a sec, that's not rogue armour in the portrait...", and in checking the rest of the decisions in that playthrough state, everything else was fine. Just the class that switched for some reason.

Still annoying to have to remake your Inquisitor. It really would be handy if you got a brief overview of your ws when you import it.

Hi Kia,
I didnt want to bash you or something. I was way past Hinterlands and couldnt go back, motivation dropped to zero dark thirty. But I am glad to hear that you like the changes of an imported world state, if it works.

+1 to idea

I just arrived in a bigger city and was told Alistair was the king instead of sole ruler Anora :(. I checked Keep and found out he is defined there like it. I had to go step by step during DAO import in Keep because it didn't import a lot of things right, so it is a bit weird but whatever. Other snippets look fine, though.

Inability to review a state of world you are about to import and hard-to-replicate character editor are not very user-friendly combination. And the fact you start discovering imported backstory only after you have played a couple of hours doesn't help either.

Offline modding feature would be greatly appreciate. A mere config text file available for manual edit would be enough. Not only now but for the sake of future replays because let's be honest, Bioware tries to deliver as best as they can how many companies are still around and supporting their years old games nowadays?

You review the worldstate by going to the tapesrty and looking at it.

I believe he means in Inquisition itself, to confirm you have the right one.

It would have helped when importing if the worldstate name showed up. Not just the timestamp

Agreed. I don't see why it wouldn't grab the name at time of import.

Once I got over my intitial shock of the failed import at 50+ hours, I decided to just keep playing.  I did enjoy the game in and of itself, but there was definitely something missing.  I have the same kind of emotional investment in this series as I would in a series of novels (which speaks highly to the writing and character development), so to get to the third installment and find out the characters from the previous two novels were changed was quite jarring.  It made it feel disconnected from the larger story, for me.  Also, I wanted to punch Hawke for speaking so badly of Anders.  :::la la la la not listening you imposter:::

Oh well, I plan on a second play through at some point in the future and now I'll know how to check much sooner whether the import was truly successful.

What would be REALLY helpful is if they included a codex entry on the Hero of Ferelden as soon as you start the game.  You could check first thing and rest easy whilst investing all those hours.

Fantastic.  30+ hours in.  So... what's the point of asking "do you want to import your world state" when you start, if it doesn't import your world state?  Or DAK telling you to "verify in game" if you actually CAN'T?  Why'd it take 30 hours?  Because 1. It asked, so it shouldn't have been an issue.  2.  There's no direct way to verify until "something isn't right." and 3.  Something wasn't right until I talked to Leliana and she said my warden is dead.  I can forgive some "disappointment" issues since it's still an improvement over DA2 as far as RPGism goes, but WTF.  The game's been out for awhile now, this should've been fixed.  Or, let me reload it in-game. Even if a few things changed, I could live with that.

This problem is stiil happening? I was really excited about this back when I got into the closed Beta, but this is unacceptable. As I said long ago, this being an important selling point to DAI means that if this isn't working properly, Inquisition itself is just as broken.
