Walkthroughs say that after dealing with the Blades of Hassarian but before going to Redcliffe to try to recruit the mages you need to go to the Ghislain Estate, where if you let the mages assist you, you will meet Vivienne. This never came up for me. Nobody ever mentioned a quest for anything to do with Ghislain. I have no idea what that is. I found the killed scouts at the rendezvous on the hill. I tried both killing and recruiting the Hassarians. Nothing is different? Was there something much earlier I was supposed to do? Because I am at a loss.

You can get Vivienne after Val Royaux. You meet a messenger of hers in the city and can then travel to her estate (through the world map). I haven't done the Baldes of Hessarian yet, but I have Vivienne.

You should've gotten a cut-scene after Val Royeaux that opens up an area on the war room map for you to go recruit her.

Just went back to Val Royeaux and found the guy waiting for me. Sera's arrow interrupted me when I was there before and I went on her little trail of clues, until I found them all and left through the map. Never walked by where I entered from, so I never saw him. That was really helpful. Thank you.

I went back as well, and I can't find the messenger anywhere. I've been through the whole area, upper area and down. All by the fountain, and the exit. Disappointing.
