Cutscene animations for a female PC

I'm sure it's been said, but switching over to my female character after playing a male PC makes me cringe.

Every cutscene so far immediately strips away her feminine gait and uses animations that are clearly meant for a male character, and it looks bad.  Especially on an elf female with her thin legs and how wide she spreads them while simply walking.

I know you guys have a certain amount of resources, but I would have sacrificed an entire map and all of its associated content to have proper cutscene animations for female characters.  It's kinda crazy how bad this looks and while I can force myself to overlook it, there is not a single instance where it doesn't manage to be jarring.

End feedback.

Maybe she does a lot of horse riding?

I'm actually enjoyng this discrepancy. My tombysh female rogue is more in character during cutscene than while walking around (or when she is still. That pose make me cringe, is innatural, she seem like she is walking on eggs)

I'm convinced there should be two set of animation, one more "masculine" and rude, and one more "feminine" and elegant to choose while creating the character, like the walking animation in the sims 4.

I dunno, the women in DA:O and DA2 had a noticeably masculine gait as well. I got used to it after awhile. Or is it that much worse in DA:I?

My Inquisitor's background is that of a hardened mercenary who is used to being distrusted and feared by those around her. The type of feminine elegance you're suggesting is proper would be out of place for that character.

I absolutely agree. I hate that my inquisitor suddenly has really awkward posture during cut scenes. It's so jarring, especially after watching her walk and run around with her female animation for several hours.

Josephine also walks bowlegged. I can see a female warrior walking tough but not her. With her it just looks like lazy animators. In general it strips everyone of being able to express personality through movement by giving them identical male bowlegged animations.

I've noticed something horribly wrong with my elf's arms.  My qunari (both female) has normal arms that hang at her side normally.  My elf hold her arms way back and away from her body.  She isn't so much elven as gremlin.

Simply this.

I don't mind it so much (my inq isn't a delicate flower!) except for the fact she hunches over constantly. She can never seen to stand up straight in cutscenes it seems, its always slouching forward with shoulders at a weird angle.

Right from the word go I found the cut-scenes off.  Straight away you know something is wrong, it's just not the way Bioware does it.  Normally.

I agree for the most part with OP. But, at the same time, my FemInq did a hip swinging femme fatale swagger during a cutscene that was Epic! (I saw the same swagger done by Cassandra  a couple times.)

I just wish when seated, my female doesn't spread it open in a manner that most women would never sit... like that... ever.  Unless they are specifically setting a mood.

My FemInq sits wide open on her throne...  What does that mean? What is she trying to convey?

Note: I do like it when she crosses her legs while on the throne, but those scenes when it's just open... I cringe.

Yes, shoulders seem reversed and very ape-like when walking during scripted scenes.

My dwarf is doing that, too. It makes no sense.

There's cutscenes with people walking?

Maybe a benefit of playing the dwarf, camera doesn't hang low enough to show much of the inquisitor's legs.

This too.  Very much this.  The first scene with the advisors and Cass is a good example.

I've never noticed this issue with a male character.

Walking. Sitting. Even standing, often enough.

You're supposed to feed the female elf vitamin C. She's got Rickets. It's the equivalent of Vampirism in Skyrim.

You can make vitamin C by combining Elf Root and Embrium. (jk)

Yeah, it’s pretty bad. Hopefully they’ll do something with it; at the very least fix the hunching.

I appreciate that the current gait is a fit for some female characters, but as a default it’s… not great. If there’s only one possible animation, they should be able to make it far more neutral. Even for inguysitors that’s a pretty heavily swaggering posture.

Agreed. If they're going to insist upon a 'feminine' mince during gameplay (and a bloody awful pose when standing still, which keeps making me think she's glitching into a T-pose any minute), then not bother in cutscenes, they may as well give the player a choice. I'd prefer my female warrior didn't saunter around. She hits things in the head with metal things till they stop moving - she's not one for sauntering or flouncing...

I think we should have a choice on gameplay walkstyle(hopefully someone will mod this) and masculine/feminine cutscenes available for both genders

I don't think there needs to be one "masculine" and one "feminine" set of animations. As soon as something is supposed to be "feminine" it tends to go to far in the other direction (as with the running animations).

Just make the animations neutral. Have an inquisitor who doesn't slouch on the throne and who doesn't sit with his legs a meter apart. Have an inquisitor that's not walking bow-legged through the cutscenes. Even if you're making a male character there's no need to make him behave like a gorilla.
