HI All,

Just started playing DA:I

I have 2 questions re control with keyboard & mouse on PC:

(1) Is there any other way to get the camera to follow WASD key character movements other than continually holding down right mouse button ? I'm getting cramps in my hand doing this. Have never played a game that does this (well I have in MMOs and I can't play them because of it - also this game is NOT an MMO). Have I missed something in the OPTIONS ?

(2) At the first large rift at the ash temple you have to "disrupt" it to affect the "whatever it's called" demon, by using right mouse button somehow. I've got no idea what I'm supposed to do here. All my party died while I was attempting to disrupt. Can someone explain what I am suposed to do here ?

PLEASE do not suggest using controller as I have tried it with DS2 and due to a hand injury I cannot use them.

All help appreciated,

Cheers,

Raksy

You have to wait until a patch comes out. Keyboard and mouse controls for this game are horribly horrendous.

1) You cannot do this. You have to use mouse click. Yeah, tactical cam is shite.

2) You have to wait until the rift crystalizes and then hover around it and when a hand icon pops up, you click on the rift and disrupt it.

Hi Ishten,

Thanks for the response.

RE 1) You cannot do this. You have to use mouse click. Yeah, tactical cam is shite.

I'll try mouse clicking, but to get fluid movement I had to hold down right mouse button while holding down W key and move mouse around for fluid direction change. This was in normal mode, not tactical. I don't see why the camera just can't follow W key with mouse movement (no button held down) like in 95% of other games.

Surely they could just program the game to unlock the camera from the mouse in response to the controls that activate tactical mode, if this need to hold down right mouse button is due to the tactical mode. Even DS2 with kbd & mse had better camera than DA:I (and that's saying something !!).

I ain't even going to worry about tactical mode as I tried it once and it is too weird for me to use.

RE RIFT - I saw the hand and I hovered around it pressing right mouse button but nothing happened. I'll try again as maybe I clicked on wrong thing.

Yeah I hope they patch these things, as it is a great looking game. I've had no probs with it hitching or crashing yet (touch wood) - i5 3570k, 8GB RAM, GTX 780ti.

Ta,

It will say 'Disrupt Rift' over it when you are able to do it. If the quizzy gets hit while trying to disrupt, they will generally forget entirely what they were trying to do and start doing something else. If green **** comes out of the quizzys hand and the boss' Guard goes down, you did it right.

Don't hold down the right mouse button, just hold down shift instead, it's much easier on the hand..

Thanks Aurok, went back and tried it again and got it finally. Doh !!

Hi Nerwan,

That doesn't do anything for me. SHIFT is mapped to SPRINT in my options, and my character is always sprinting.

Doesn't help with camera. Is SHIFT mapped to something else in your game ? Again, I mean general movement not in tactical mode.

I can use A and D but they do not move camera with same feel as holding down right mouse button and moving mouse.

There's an area, where the druffalo roam, in Haven that you can practice in. I go there to try out grenades, practice tac cam, farm rams and druffalo. For me, I've changed the way I use tac cam from a top down to a ground level perspective. It seems the pathfinding of the camera is tied into where your character can actually go, so for example if there's a big rock or wall the camera will simply bump into it rather than going over. It's a learning curve, particularly when coming from origins where the camera wasn't encumbered by terrrain or obstacles. The camera will only go so far as well so you have to move your character in order get to new terrain. I would have liked to have seen even a perk added that allowed a greater range for the cam or something to that effect. I would suggest going to that field to practice. It's nice, open and you can get a feel for attacking. You'll also notice that if while in tac cam you can right click on elfroot and your character will actually go over and pick it up. Right click on a druffalo and your character will auto attack. If you want to disengage simply right click twice somewhere on the ground and your character will go there and hold position. That comes in handy when you're trying to micromanage during a skermish, particularly if your using, like me a dw rogue and you want to get him clear of the battle so you can attend to those pesky mages that are always getting into trouble. Hope this helps a bit :)

There's an area . . . .

Cheers Iron Horse. I might give that a go if I feel I have to use tactical mode. But I was bemoaning the fact of the way the camera works in normal movement, not in tactical mode.

I have started using the A and D keys for simple stuff, but the way you have to use the mouse (if you want tilt) is basically STOOPID in single player action mode in this game. As I said before, this is NOT an MMO. I was sold on this game having an action mode, ie not having to use tactical mode unless on harder difficulties.

I spose I will get used to it, but I just find it crazy that the camera works best in non tactical mode when you hold down the right mouse button continuously. Painful.

Cheers to you Raksasajohn

I'm playing on nightmare so I've gotten into the habit of using it quite a bit also I started zooming out as far as I can without going into tac cam and have found it gives me a better perspective on the surroundings as well as being easier for movement control.

Hopefully its as simple as binding tilt to the up down keys. As well I'd also like to see the tac cam be free rather than snapping to each individual party member as you change to them. These couple of things would go along way to making its use more feasible, not perfect, but feasible.
