So not sure if I made a mistake but when varric introduces me to hawke it asks if I wanted to go with default hawke or custom. I assumed custom meant my customized hawke from 2 but it took me to an edit screen. Does default hawke mean my original appearence brought in since I played keep? I tried to match the custom look as best I could but it still looked off.

You can't directly import your Hawke's face into DA:I; you have to either rebuild it or go with the default Hawke appearance.

Beware of the Voice change bug if you made you Inquisitor have "Voice 2"
The bug will cause him/her to change to "Voice 1" if you click on Custom Hawke.

I had to reload back to an earlier save I like my old voice! How could this have so many bugs! Not to mention the default Hawke doesn't really look like Default Hawke from 2! the hair's different she looks funny! I want to change it but my voice changes if I do!
