Can somebody, in their game, build their guard to max, and then check in the attributes section under guard the numerical value? I'd like a report to of your max guard and level, I only have one save file so can't check myself. Trying to see if there is a correlation between the two.

I noticed at 13, the max guard of my 2 warriors is 200, and this is with the 25% max guard passive. That's a rather miniscule amount since they bouth have 800-900 hitpoints. That much guard gets broken in 1 o 2 hits against most enemies. I have been getting the impression that while guard was useful early on in the game, it's quite useless now.

I'm having a worrisome suspicion that guard does not scale, or that is scales very poorly, which would explain my experience.

I did some limited testing and seems base guard is 150 extra hp, and 200 after the 25% upgrade. So yea, it's a pretty tiny amount that becomes more irrelevant with as you level. It roughly adds 20% more hit points if I can get it to max guard. On nightmare that is usually 1 or 2 hits.

Meanwhile my Mages Barrier gives 3500 hitpoints. So while I was already pretty sure about it, barrier is a far better source of damage mitigation than guard.

Barrier doesn't have armour mitigation though, and it constantly runs down.

Look at guard this way: unlike regular health, it's health which can be 'healed' without using a consumable. That's the value add.

That's not to say it isn't a bit useless though if it really doesn't scale.

Guard is based off your max HP, not lvl or some arbitrary other limitation. The thing that ruins testing is +max HP items don't seem to be counted. This is leading me to want to do +heal % instead of +max HP as your guard stays the same but your HP is rather high. However, with out the 25% I have something like 260 max guard on my 2H survival warrior but he also has like 38 Constitution atm lol. That is with OUT the 25% bonus guard, mind you.

So lesson for guard - get as much Con as you can muster, max-HP is broken atm in relation to skill using it probably (I think devour ignores it to.. that or the read out is lying horribly). and... yeah, there ya go. Cons our friend when you want Guard for Tankin'.

I looked at Guard at a Cassandra at level 3 and 14. The difference in hp was about 200 I think, based Guard was still around 150. I have two different warriors in my party with the 25% passive, their Guard seems to max out at 200 as well at 14.

If it scales of HP, it must be very low scaling.

Like I said you should check to see if your HP is from +HP or from a lot of Con. I had the 25% bonus in my initial partial playthrough with a lot of +max HP, and not a lot of Con and my total guard ratio to HP was 20%. instead of the BASE 25%. Seems odd right? Why would base be 25%, but adding 25% passive make it 20%. Only thing I can think of was all the +max HP isn't counted. Right now though, lvl 13, with 38 Con and no real +max HP and it's over 200 max guard (around 260). I'm saying it scales off hp from Con (and your base) not from +hp items. I think that's a glitch, honestly, and I hope they fix it at some point cause it's a little BS.

Now I'm just hoping devour gains bonuses from +heal% cause if it doesn't im gonna have to find a new modifier for glove/boots.

It does not need to be that high - the point is to use your guard skills while in combat. 200 Guard is more then enough the tank a dragon with a bit of barrier inbetween. Just alternate between shieldwall and the other guard skill
