Wrong gender imported

So, on my game of Inquisition, I've finally came to meet Hawke, except, I don't believe Varric remembers them as well as I do, because they are the wrong gender.

I imported my game correctly (At least, I believe so). I followed BioWare's keep instructions before I went into game as closely as possible. All of my other choices are correct from what I've read/heard and seen, in game and via Dragon Age Keep's play through slates. (I would have cried if, with nearly 30 hours into DA:I, my Warden/Morrigan/baby was not flagged).

I know a patch is being worked on, though, I have the inkling that possibly any fixes in regards to the Keep/Game import won't be save game compatible. (I could be wrong, please correct my ignorance if so). So, I just thought I would mention this here, so that someone from BioWare may maybe notice it, if they're not already aware of it (once again, forgive my ignorance, this issue appeared to be incredibly sparse with my short time looking in to see if it was a common issue - with the few threads light in replies) and maybe others, who are a little more attached to their Hawkes, can avoid this before they're in too deep.

Where did they say it will be fixed?

Would love if so but when and will it be fixed for active Games too or just for New Game?

I played 50h+ and my Hawke has the wrong gender too even tough anything else seems to be correct.

That really killed my immersion after all the cool stuff happened just before I meet the "wrong" Hawke. :(

Now I am eager to play on but not with the wrong Hawke and starting over after I put so much Time in this round isn't an option.

I am in the same situation, it is very frustrating because I love this game for the story, and if my story isn't my story I don't want to play it.

I have the same issue, shows a default warden and hawke under the playtrough states as well, even though I've followed the exact instructions. Looks like all the choices are the same however, so very happy to hear it's getting fixed. Frustrating if I have to restart the entire playtrough.

Oh shoot, this is still going on? That's discouraging. The game will be here on Friday, and I would hate if they just put the default Warden and Hawke and world states instead of the ones I spent a lot of time arranging and uploading. =(

Yeah I noticed today that my warden elf rogue in my playtrough world state has changed to a male dwarf rogue..?? How did that even happen? I certainly hope this gets fixed, I mean, it's super weird that the playtrough world state should change isn't it? Because that's the one I copied into my tapestry again to check the decisions were right, and that one is still my warden elf rogue so what's going on with the keep/inquisition? It's very frustrating and confusing.

I got to the part where Varric first mentions Hawke in haven when you asked about the champion of Kirkwall, I just checked my DA: Keep and my Champion was Fem Hawke but when I asked Varric about her, he mentions the Champion as a "He" Does this mean my game is bugged as well? Will my Hawke turn out to be a dude when I meet her later on in my playthrough? I thought the purpose of the keep was to prevent any Plot Flags from screwing up.... :/

I have the same - I imported male, but in game everyone tells to me as female.

I've spent around 30 hours doing everything I could up until getting to Skyhold, where Varric just mentioned that Hawke is a guy. Every other option is perfect, but that's the one thing that it apparently messed up. I don't feel like restarting at this point, but I also don't feel like going on when the story I went through in the previous game doesn't match this one. This is a great game and all, but I don't think I'm willing to restart again. Having over 70 power by Skyhold and doing as much in a vast open world you can do up to that point really doesn't make replay look attractive.

If Varric is saying that Hawke was a guy when your Hawke was a female, odds are high that your import didn't work for one reason or another. You can quickly check what was imported by going to playthrough states in the Keep (go to the world state manager, and they are one to the left of the editable world states). If you have no playthrough states then that means that your EA account is has not synched with your current playthrough (which likely means that you are not synching with the right account).

I don't remember any point in the Haven conversations where he actually mentions Hakwe as a 'he' or a 'she'. The only time it might have sounded like it I figured he was referring to the Arishok, because I heard 'he' and later discovered a female Hawke. Unfortunately this playthrough didn't work right. I did check the Keep, and it did say precisely the changes I made, but Hawke's gender was still incorrect, even while every other option seemed to work.

Indeed, when Varric was asked about what became of Hawke's companions, he states that CARVER is doing something, somewhere.  I double-checked my Keep tapestry to be certain, and sure enough, BETHANY became a Grey Warden and is still alive, whereas CARVER died leaving Lothering.

Friendly reminder to all refrain from spoilers!

On topic though, i have the same issue. 74 hours in and i am enjoying it more than i can express, but now i realized the Hero of Ferelden is refered to as a female. I have checked my Keep settings, and my hero is male!

Will a patch or update fix this or is the situation broken and done with no way to fix it other than a restart from scratch?

EDIT: Did a post on Origins supportforum because it was connected to my Origin Keep settings not syncing to the correct Origin account.

I have tired numerous times, over the past few weeks, to have my champion of Kirkwall and each time its not my champion, it's an old dude! I thought that this past update would fix the problem, but it hasn't. I'm so pissed!!!! How can this be fixed!?

Has anyone put up workaround for this? I've already invested 30 hours in so far. Telling your players to go and start all over with a NEW world state just to fix this is still somewhat unacceptable.

It's unlikely that they will make a way to fix the problem in a started game. That would require changing your Hawke or Warden file in the game and replacing it with the correct one and that's actually complex. If anything they will simply keep it from occuring in the future.

My suggestion is to just roll with it for this playthrough. Unless you're only going to play the game once, it shouldn't be a huge deal.

You see I was wondering about this idea - say if you then were forced to start a new DA:I game based on the "supposedly" correct world state, then how about these below as a concept workaround:

  • Start a new game with the supposedly correct playthrough,
  • quit the game.
  • go back to the Keep.
  • make your choices as you remembered from the other inquisition playthrough (the wrong one) into this new Inquisition-only playthrough in the Keep.
  • Reload the game, and actually force the game to recognise what you've modified and loads a section (before beginning of major quest / plotpoint) based on how far you've made the overrides in the Keep on a default spawn location (either @Haven or @Skyhold) ?

You have to wonder at times why would Bioware actually put the DA:I SPOILERS toggle on/off in the keep - and also allowing you to make the actual plot choices on the fly (so long as the world state is unlocked) within the keep at the same time.

But then again ironically -  there is no way thus far that we can actually PLAY those MODIFIED INQUISITION worldstate that's just been altered in the keep. Wouldn't it be great if there's a facility that allows you to "JUMP" straight to any episodes within inquisition as based on the choices you override at the Keep?

(sigh) I was up to my 45 hours on my previous playthrough (with the wrong gender hawke and actually bits & pieces of the plot actually messed up) and just restarted anew.
