Does anyone happen to know if I need to patch the game more than the patch that it comes with?  The one on the GoG site says it patches the game from 2.01 to 2.10, whereas all the patches I can find only go up to version 1.231765, which doesn't make sense...

GOG uses its own internal numbering systems for all of their game installers which doesn't match the game version.  You'll find many complaints about it on their forums.  Their actual game version is the final 1.23+whatever.

It's fully patched yaddy-yadda. I didn't even have to use the patcher, it was already fully patched and working perfectly, so I wouldn't worry about any of that.

The only thing you need to do is download DirectX 9c manually so it can run and then get Skywing's Client Extension to play online unless you use Direct Connect.

Yes, it is 100% legit. Not even grey market.

Yeah, GoG is as legit as Steam.

More legit than Steam.  With GOG, you don't have to install a client (they have one, but you don't have to use it), or ask permission whenever you want to install or play your games.
