Companion vs Player character?

Since there are 9 companions, one of each spec, it means if I want to have two of the same specialization it needs to be the character I make at the start.

So I'm wondering, does the player character gain any special skills, more ability points or is stronger in general compared to a companion?

Oh and do passive buffs (lets say a templar's 10% damage protection aura) stack with 2 of the same class?

Well you get some free attribute points in a fade sequence, but not nearly as much as you got from the fade in Origins so it's not a huge advantage. Otherwise I think the PCs is stuck at followers level in gameplay regardless of in-story superiority

That.

And the human PC gets an extra level as a racial power, I guess. edit: Err ability point, that is.

An ability point is good, but so is 10% melee defense or 25% ranged/magic defense

Thanks for the replies guys.

I find it a little unfortunate that your own player character always has to be the one that's non-unique if you want to have two of the same specializations in the game, but it doesn't matter that much if they're equal power and you can switch easily I guess.

As far as the buffs go, does anyone know if they stack?

Actually Knight Enchater is pretty badass as well, if you upgrade the sword, you can, with proper timing, deflect dragon fireballs. Plus you can revive your entire party if they've been taken out.

I think there is an inquisition perk "Exclusive Training" that gives you an extar abilty or something.

Do you in the end get all inquisition perks or do you have to pick and choose? (ie: picking the extra ability point comes at a cost of another benefit)

You can't take them all but you can have a bunch

So still no one knows about party buffs stacking?

How about non-passive buffs like two horns of valor (warrior non-specialization specific)

I don't know about Hushed Whispers, didn't see any when I played it, but Champions of the Just also has a few boosts as well. This combined with the boosts from the Fade is pretty significant.

I think I found some in hushed whispers. But that quest really is so bleh compared to Champions of the Just I just wanted it over at that point.

I'm sure you enjoyed how they handled Fiona during at least part of it, though.
