I have picked up dozens and dozens of weapon upgrade schematics... but how exactly do i craft them?

I'll try to look from greatswords, daggers and bows.. and for all of them it just says i've got no upgrades available, even though i know for a fact i've bought upgrade schematics for them

Do i have to craft the upgrade first then add it to the gear? if so how do i do that.. really frustrated here, tried looking online but all the guides just say 'you should put upgrades into gear to make them better etc'

At the weapon crafting bench, not the upgrade bench. They will be in the tab associated with whatever weapon you are looking to upgrade.

Yup, respectively the armor or weapon bench. Then click the right category and scroll down. Beneath the regular armor schematics you will find upgrade components.
