I'll be shocked if DA:I doesn't sweep the GOTY awards for 2014. I have five favorite franchises: Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Dark/Demons Souls. This new game is head and shoulders better than anything on that list, IMO. Sometimes a developer just gets everything right, and that's what Bioware did here. Not to say there aren't odd little flaws...no game is perfect. But this is as close as I've seen.
I was SO hyped up. Yet, the game is even better than expected...

You sound like a over played record. Get over it? So the PC version has a few problems to work out, guess what? so does Console. Enjoy the game for what it is. It's great, if you pull the stick out of your ass for a second and get over your self righteous childish mentality.
Without wanting to offend anybody but ... very often these days I get indeed the feeling gamers have become somewhat spoiled brats, complaining about everything they DON'T get or isn't a 100% to their very personal liking ... and due to the internet everyone can (or better: SHOULD!!, Godmanit, I am important!!) share their feelings ...
Yep, there are some minor issues, but to condem the entire game for this? What a pile of turd such an opinion is, especially when they say "after ten minutes" or "after an hour of playing" yeah, yeah, yeah...I also hate THAT record as well.
It's okay to not like a game, because taste is different for everybody (I never got over the fact that Far Cry 3 is adored so much, what a boring generic piece of boredom that is!), but some statements are beyond ridicoulous and can't be taken seriously ... just like children sometimes have to be ignored when they get tantrums, they'll calm down over time and get tired of it... ![]()

The game is really great. I'm about 80 hours in on my first playthrough and there are really only two areas that concern me. First, would be the amount of interactions with the companions/advisors. I keep thinking that maybe having 9 companions and 3 advisors was too much and that Bioware spread themselves thin to provide enough dialogue and interactions with them. I think I would prefer fewer companions with more dialogue and story interactions because it's one of my favorite aspects of the game.
The other area that concerns me is the main story. I have not completed it yet, but I am worried it will be too short with how quickly the story is ramping up. I guess it comes down to again the fact that I would like to see more preference placed on the many story versus the amount of sidequests they put into all the huge areas. Perhaps I am asking for too much, but I hope to see more of this in their future games if they continue with the DA franchise.
Aside from that, DAI amazes me and I am enjoying it lot. It's a beautiful game filled with so much rich lore, the environments are breathtaking, crafting is huge and Skyhold is a nice addition. I definitiely have much excitement to replay DAI several times over.

I agree with your post except for that last bit.
You sorely underestimate the stamina people have for complaining about something they have decided to hate.

I'm not nearly as far as you, but it seems like the companions/advisors have way more dialogue than before. I've basically tried up their topics for now but I assume that when I progress the story some more they'll get more stuff, right? Or is it just an illusion that they have more dialogue than in previous games?

I don't know, it's hard to tell but for some reason it feels less to me. I guess I was hoping for something more like DAO where you can actually speak to the companions outside of the Skyhold. There is a decent amount with the companions and advisors, but I guess I am a bit too picky about this area of the game. I just think characters could be fleshed out more with a better backstory if there weren't so many companions/advisors created.

I just want to say I agree with the OP. I love this game. It's my favourite BW game since BG. It has a spot in my top ten of all time list (up there with Dark Souls, EverQuest, FF6, etc.).

Not what I was expecting but as a whole it still holds up better than what I feared. It just isn't the return to form I was crossing my fingers for.
It seems to me that the more Bioware stays with EA the more they are forced into creating "accesible" stories with focus on gameplay first over plot. Let's face it, a majority of side quests in this game were not created by the idea of a side-story Bioware wanted us to see, but a gameplay objective that was justified by scribbling up a very basic story.
I like the side quests that relate to the fact that we're important, like overtaking a fort for the Inquisition, but the more mundane and down to earth quests are just painfully dull, like "my husband is gone, go find him plz". Half the stuff in this game has zero creativity.
But I must applaud Bioware for knowing their limitations in regards to writing a plot this time. The plot in the game is simple, yet it works and it still manages to surprise you along the way. Once again its the individual characters that make the adventure so memorable, and not so much the main plot. Just, compared to DA2 this does indeed feel like a step up, because it doesn't feel as much like melodrama and meandering.
Kudos to some amazing acting performances here and there as well. Anyone who says Voice 1 male sucks needs a smack on their cheek. He's got great range!

I am also really enjoying it so far. I have not actually gotten that far in the story yet because i keep making new characters and playing the multiplayer but from what i have played (which is probably about 10-15 hours worth of singleplayer) it is great! I have not enjoyed a game this much since Skyrim. Apart from the occasional bugs (most of which will hopefully be fixed eventually) i have not found anything that i really completely dislike about it yet! ![]()

I'm reserving judgment as I haven't played it yet but I remember the initial response to DA2 was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. It wasn't until a while after release, once the hyped had died down that people finally started to acknowledge that it wasn't all it was hyped up to be and overall a step back in quality from the previous installment.

They've really done an excellent job with the writing thus far. Of course it's BioWare so that's expected, but the one place I didn't expect it to excel is...the main story.
And it has. Forget for a minute the number of critical path missions: this game has approached questions of faith and belief with a complexity that I haven't seen in a game before. Not only that, but they've had to do it while accounting for the entire range of role-playing someone might want to do here. And many of the companions tie into these questions as well.
Dragon Age Inquisition has also done an excellent job bringing in past story threads and fulfilling the promise of a continuous yet customizable narrative. The latest story cutscene I've done seems relatively benign on the surface but has me absolutely terrified of the implications....and the only reason this is so is because of how personal I've made my Dragon Age universe over 3 games.
Combat has utterly blown away Origins and Dragon Age 2. For the first time playing a Warrior actually feels great. In Origins it was a boring slog, and in DA2 it was too button mashy. Here they've perfected it.

The game is outstanding.
Bugs will get fixed (it's a big game and Skyrim took 5 patches).
Design changes are not bugs and require a little adaptation not whining, the changes are mostly good ones.

I'm just going to pile in and agree with the OP. This is the best FRPG I've played in a long, long time. As for the PC controls. They work fine. The Tactical Cam needs improving but now I've figured the quirks I'm having no problems running tactical fights or seeing what is going on.
The rest of the gameplay more than makes up for control issues. I've scored it 9/10 on Metacritic because whatever differences there are to DAO its simply a fantastic game experience in its own right.

I don't remember that at all. Professional reviewers were positive enough for the most part, sure, but I saw almost no positivity from gamers, even straight after the game released. Seems to be a lot more of 'this game is great!' going around various forums.
