Red templar behemoths are immune to weakness and have fire resistance.  When I run into them with a fire-spec'd rift mage I know I'm going to be in for a long fight of spamming stonefist.  Is it hard?  No.  Is it fun?  NO!

There is no doubt that fire is the damage tree.  But as a fire-spec'd Rift Mage it is frustrating that my options are:

Frost:  Nothing in the tree with enough damage to keep mana regen going

Electricity:  prevents weakness from being applied/renewed and hinders mana regen

Spirit:  Damage from dispel and mind blast are laughable at best (detonator not worth a spot on my bar)

Rift mage against little minions it is a no brainer.  But against difficult boss-type enemies with immunities and fire resist, the Rift Mage is hurting.

If stonefist detonator was fixed, it would make spells like winter's grasp have meaning on my bar again.

I agree with you.  That is why in fights like that I swap over to Cole.  I setup the AI for my Rift mage to prefer stone fist and run Cole for that part of the fight.

See..that doesn't work for me.  Because then I go "holy crap assassin is fun!" and then re-roll.  :/

If it is any consolation that is exactly what happened to me.  And then I discovered that Artificer is even more fun (at least for me).  I still haven't finished a full play through though I think my Dagger Artificer will be the first.
