I love freeze/ice/chill powers, so I'm strong on those. Use the barrier of course, too and the flame circle. Chain lightning is good as well. Blizzard is fun, though wall of ice seems more of a nuisance than anything else, and blocks my own guys from battle too. Also got Dispel for times when it's needed.

I like the Creation tree line. I maxed those out. Even though there's no healing spells in Inquisition, that Dispel spell is really useful when it comes to sealing rifts across maps.

Hemorrhage from DA II is still my favorite; blood magic is so awesomely unholy.

My battle rotation:
Barrier
Upgraded Fade Step (to close the distance while passing through as many enemies as possible)
Upgraded Fade Cloak (invulnerable while doing 1000% spirit damage upon phasing back in)
Spam Spirit Blade
Love it. ![]()

Full Creation tree with full Knight-Enchanter tree, with a staff with a masterwork that gives me guard.
I went through roughly half the game without taking any damage to my health at all.

Static Cage with the DMG enhancement - Energy Barrage - Fade Step - Revive w/Enhancement

Rift Mage with Fire storm is incredibly satisfying. Winter's Grasp has always been my fave, but Chain Lightening is a lot more useful in this game, IMO.

Barrage is my absolute favorite. It was fun to use and fun to watch. A close second was chain lightning. Those two were probably my most frequently used spells during my lengthy mage run.

I have the full rift mage tree, winter's grasp, fade step, and barrage in my bar. It was fun to use that rift mage skill (forgot the name) to pull all the enemies together and then freeze them and bombard them with aoe.

Winter's Grasp and not so much for in game functionality. Rather it's the sound it makes when casting. In reverse it's just like a potato gun firing into a glassworks shop. In terms of actual gameplay, fade step is hard to beat for me. I use it in and out of battle. If I could get away with not drawing my weapon after using it I wouldn't use a horse for my mage.

Fade Step and Death Siphon are my favourites at the moment.

I hate spirit blade. Or, rather, I hate the melee combat in DAI, especially if you have more than one character meleeing and/or if the enemy has a huge model but a tiny hit box (dragons/wyverns). Watching 3 characters milling around dragon's leg trying to hit it but getting on each others way is annoying. There is a LOT of that dragon, just stab the damn thing.
So for the favorite spell I'd go with fire mine. Watching things explode for 20k damage makes me smile.

Love Fade Step too. And the rest. I miss some of the old spells though.
