Pull of the Abyss and Fire Mine get the most utility for me.  I taken immense pleasure in setting up four or five enemies (particularly spiders) to land on a single Fire Mine blast.

Outside of that (probably in this order) Immolate, Energy Barrage, Wall of Flame, Walking Bomb, Stone Fist, Static Cage.

Knight Enchanter + Storm + Winter trees are my go to for my mage.

My favorite abilities out of each tree are Fade Cloak, Energy Barrage, and Fade Step respectively.

I go full ice and specialize in KE, and take Dorian with me if I roll with two mages so we can blitz enemies with fire and ice.  I usually respec and get rid of the default lightning they give you at the beginning of the game as soon as possible.  I do however, almost always use an electricity staff with a spirit rune (go figure).

Rift skills. Nothing like summoning black holes and flaming meteors.

Fade Step was my Inquisitor's signature move.

Fade Stepping through an enemy, freezing them, and then finishing them off with Spirit Blade ftw.

The necromancy tree

I liked this tree until Cole pointed out

Spoiler
.  So, I don't really have a favorite in Inquisition. I miss FORCE MAGE from DA:II

I liked Energize :P

Seriously, it's so badass. Big-scale telekinesis you can use to make a bunch of planks into a bridge or open a passage blocked by rubble? Count me in :D

Static Cage (upgraded) = fun for the whole family

Fade Steppin' is a must

Wall o' Fire is fun and good for some laughs when mooks run through it trying to get to you.

Specialization spells I like: Da (walking) Bomb and Stone Fist

KE tree passives

KE Fade Cloak

KE Spirit Blade

Barrier

Spirit tree: Rejuvenating Barrier

Fire tree passives

Static Cage (upgraded) + Fire Mine (upgraded)

Fade Step + upgrade

I don't get many Ice tree skills because I find fire and lightning are more effective with my aggressive style of play.

My next mage will explore the synergy of standard mage spells with Rift Mage. Necro will be last.

Cole is always a buzzkill. My Quizzy was deviant though so she didn't care 'bout no spirits.

Oh my favorites are all the entropy hexes! Vulnerability/affliction hex, misdirection hex, death hex. And then there's the amazing Crushing Prison from the Spirit school. And I also enjoy the Blood Magic specialization...oh wait none of that is in DA:I...

No I'm not bitter about how much they removed from mages at all...

My battle rotation:

Barrier

Upgraded Fade Step (to close the distance while passing through as many enemies as possible)

Upgraded Fade Cloak (invulnerable while doing 1000% spirit damage upon phasing back in)

Spam Spirit Blade

Love it. :)

Ayup.  Kill dragons in 2 minutes or less.  So, so broken.

My Knight-Enchanter was all about the storm attacks. Zapping fools left and right is lots of fun, even more so when they explode. I do have a soft spot for Fade Step as well though. After Storm is filled in, I always go for some of the cold element.

Spirit bomb makes me hard as a rock.

But I want my f*cking blood magic back. I'm not on that pu$$y, "I stand for righteousness" bull, that the rest of Thedas is drunk on.

If BioWare ever does make bloodmagic a spec you can choose again, it should come with some consequences as well, like companions leaving, and NPC's potentially being hostile if they see you using it, especially if some of those NPC's are Templars or other mages. So many people in Thedas have such serious issues with blood magic that the PC should not be able to use this with impunity. The spec was a joke in the past games, because you could use these abilities and companions familiar with magic won't even bat an eye, which is lame.
