As long as Alexius lives, he remains a threat to Thedas. If you force him into servitude, what is really stopping him from screwing over the Inquisitor (whom he wants dead)? What is keeping Corypheus from influencing him? In addition, which option during the ‘sitting in judgement’ quest (pertaining to Alexius) nets the most companion approval?

Felix was his reason for siding with Corypheus, without him he is a broken man. I say put him to work, at least that way he's useful.

Execute him.

*Though Tranquility might be a worse and more fitting punishment.

I didn't really see him as much of a threat anymore at that point. Felix was dead, Tevinter wasn't going to openly accept him back, and Corypheus would likely kill him for his failure. He had nothing left.

I ended up executing him anyway because keeping him alive pisses off most of your companions except for like, 2 or 3.

I also like to think of Dorian when I make this decision. If you speak to him, he talks about how Alexius wasn't always like that. The threat of losing a son can make a man desperate, and desperate men will do anything. I say keep him alive. It may be risky, but I think it's worth it.

I kept him alive because I wanted to see what he would do.

Don't expect him to do much after his son died though.

I just ...... Want the inquisition to be betrayed by someone.

I made him tranquil, even though I'm a mage, thinking at the time that it was more merciful than outright execution.  Well, that didn't go over well with any of my mage companions or my new Mage Circle allies.  Still climbing out of that pit.

@Pierce Miller

Unfortunately, such despondency can turn into antipathy rather quickly. Alexius would make a good Trojan horse for old Cory.

And then I'd just kill him, take his research and be done with it. He tried to trick me earlier and it did not work. Corypheus is far smarter than that.

I kept him alive, for two reasons.  The first being, he is more useful alive than dead.  The second, it is more of a punishment for what he has done (and/or what he was planning to do).  He expected to die, he wanted the Inquisitor to kill him.  To keep him alive and force him to work against Cory is basically his least optimal outcome.

If you can just kill him by that point, and will there be no repercussions from having kept him alive (what has he done while supposedly researching?) A Trojan horse is a game-ending trick, because it destroys from within. He might not have tricked you before, however the threat (or risk) is now living with you, and he is a Tevinter Magister (depressed or no).

Coryphaeus is so smart--that he will not do what? Add a conclusion to that premise so it can stop floating, and either sink or swim.

My problemo with making him tranquil, is that they found a cure for it. Putting him to work seems to dangerous, and locking him up could be a ticking time bomb. Execution time! *Dorian disapproves*

I executed him. I gave it serious thought, but in the end, the kind of knowledge he had is best dead and buried, not studied. I'm sorry it upset Freddie Mercury, but it's not like he hadn't done things deserving of the sentence even without knowing where he was going to take the world in his obsessive quest.

I had sympathy for the poor man. I would have also done incredibly stupid and evil things if it guaranteed the life of a loved one.

I also dont belive in judging someone for his future crimes.

Therefor i left him alive and working for the Inquisition. I just hope Dorian can make him a better person.

Btw, can you meet Alexius somewhere in Skyhold?

According to Dorian, Alexius used to be a Tevinter who was worthy of respect and was one of the people who inspired Dorian to be the way he is.. He turned to Corypheus for Felix's sake. I don't agree with what he did, but I empathize with his need to do whatever he could to save someone he loves. Since Felix is dead, Alexius doesn't have a reason to continue working for Coryphesus and I felt he deserved a chance to atone.

eh i make him work for the inquisition or mages he betrayed.

the way i see it, he's not an evil character he loved his family so much that would do anything for his son, even cause the end of the world to save him. even when you do the the mission involving him he's not all evil he doesn't want this life it's in fact he tried several times to change it and couldn't (i have strong theories on why and cory's plan)

its not like he even wants to fight you, it was all for his son. in the end he surrenders. he's not a blindly evil man and once his son's dead and knows that cory betrayed him and he could never have saved him he's no reason to work for him.

Now he's nothing to live for he has no reason to side with cory and he hasn't gone through the joining so cory cant mess with him.

Death is a release from his guilt so is tranquillity.

tranquillity might be a terrifying example to set to others, but once alexius has been made tranquil HE wont understand what he's even done not really. he has no emotion. no i rather force him to work for others see the destruction he wrought.

I just don't see him as a threat anymore he lost everything and no longer desires a fight.

Not only Alexius wants to revert things, but even Cory himself.

I Maybe i misinterpreted the dialogue, but from what i understand even Corypheus himself didint want that future, it seems not even he know what he was doing when the the Inquisitor interfered, i mean he wants to rule over, there is no point in ruling over a destroyed world.

It seems the breath was just a mistake afterall, a mistake that only the Inquisitor would fix
