Anyone know a where to find a good armor npc?

Hissing Wastes - It costs around 6000 tier 3, the best I could find. Later a Dragon dropped a Keeper schematics also tier 3 but no upgrade slots.

But it's really expensive in Orlais! Few I saw were 3-4K for nice tiers

There is a perk in Cullen's area of expertise that lets you unlock a decent mage armor schematic. I am level 13 with an armor rating just over 150 with my mage. There's also a perk for rogues and a perk for warriors as well.

 

Other than that ... Redcliffe has a schematic merchant near the docks. I think you can get sturdy adventure armor there. I was too poor the last time I visited Val Royeux, but I think this time around I might have enough money to get one or two things.

You get the Superb Armor of the Dragon schematics after completing "Here Lies the Abyss." Which should be available since level 12..... The other workaround is to turn yourself into Knight-Enchanter, pack the Tempest staff and keep hitting hard to never lose a single bar of health, thus rendering armor kinda useless. I've done this and going to missions with Dorian and Blackwall have turned the Hard difficulty into a walk in the park.
