Is this a bug?

Also while we're at it I can't seem to find any T3 One handed sword schematics, or any good swords for that matter.

aoe maybe?  2H swords sacrifice some dmg for aoe dmg while 2H maces dont do aoe dmg but do more single target dmg.

There is no reference to AOE damage on swords, such as on the dual blade knives and greatswords.

In almost all RPG's I know of One Handed Swords do less damage than axes and maces.

Swords are usually lower damage, higher swing speed and comparable dps. They're just flat out weaker in this game.

I was able to get the Avenger sword Alistair awards for completion of the Delicate Negotiations war table mission from 162 dps base stat up to 208 dps by slotting a superb dragon slaying rune. Got the rune schematic as a drop from killing the Western Approach dragon.

Actually, from what I've seen, Swords have great damage, on par with, if not better than, Maces or Axes. The key is that the DPS number isn't the one you want to look at. The DPS stat is only relevant when considering Basic Attacks, as it factors in overall damage and attack speed. The number you really want to be looking at is Damage, which is the first number under the DPS stat. This is easily the more important number, as all abilities do damage according to the base *Damage* of the weapon, not the DPS. This is why Dragon's Rage inflicts so much more damage when you use a Two-Handed weapon instead of a One-Handed weapon, even if they have the same DPS: the Two-Hander has a higher Damage stat.

Also, my understanding is that Runes screw over the DPS number, as they don't take into account hitting a resistant or incorrect target. If your weapon has a Cleansing rune, the DPS number assumes you're hitting a Darkspawn or a Red Templar, but if you're fighting bandits, you're not getting that extra damage. The actual DPS you get is therefore lower than what the weapon says.

1H Swords are far stronger. Don't look at DPS for... well, anything really. All skills are determined by base damage. You'll note when you compare a sword to a mace or axe in your inventory your base damage rises (i.e. shows as green) even though the mace or axe will have a much higher DPS. And the increase in DPS from runes is even more deceiving as that damage can be reduced by enemy resistances and in some cases doesn't even apply based on enemy type and won't be included in your skill damage calculations at all.

Caliban that drop from dragon in du lion is quite ok stats, pure 200 dps with some good ability.

But since the lv requirement is 20, you probably get better weapons by that time.

1H swords have higher base-damage at the cost of lower displayed DPS since they swing slower,

however, skills scale from weapon's base-damage, hence swords are actually much more desireable for SS warriors who rely primarily on skill damages on much shorter cooldowns rather than auto-attack damages.

For example, for SS warriors, 200 base-damage 250 DPS swords are much better than 150 base-damage 300 DPS axes.

Some of you are actually wrong about swords base damage. If you take a sword, mace and axe schematic of the same tier you will notice that they all have the exact same attack(base damage). The mace and axe have a higher attack speed and thus they have a higher dps. So swords are weaker and there is no point in using them.

If you don't use crafting then swords become viable cause of what other posters have said (higher base damage and all that)

You know that only matters if you're fighting dragons, dragonlings, or wyverns, right? It won't do more damage to anything else.

That's why enemy-specific runes are worse than elemental runes, unless you're okay with doing a lot of weapon swapping.
